Job description

Join our Team as an Energy Storage Solutions Systems Engineer!
The Role:
We're looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Energy Storage Solutions Systems Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge energy storage systems. In this role, you'll define system requirements, shape architecture models, and support validation efforts using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platforms and real hardware systems in the lab and vehicle. You'll collaborate with a dynamic, cross-functional team of experts to deliver high-performance, safe, and reliable solutions.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Architect & Design: Define system-level architecture and decompose functionality across subsystems (e.g., BMS, power electronics, controls), clearly allocating hardware and software responsibilities.
  • Model & Analyze: Develop and maintain system-level models and simulations (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, HIL) to optimize performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Integrate & Collaborate: Work closely with hardware, firmware, software, and test teams to ensure seamless integration across components and HIL environments.
  • Test & Validate: Create test plans, execute validation protocols, and troubleshoot issues to ensure systems meet UL/industry standards and performance criteria.
  • Requirements Management: Own the end-to-end system requirements process-from capturing and tracing to verifying specifications throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Safety & Compliance: Contribute to functional safety analysis and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 26262, UL 2580), ensuring rigorous design reviews and documentation.
  • Stakeholder Support: Translate complex system data into actionable insights for internal teams and external customers, providing expert technical guidance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay at the forefront of energy storage innovations. Propose and implement enhancements to workflows, tools, and team processes (e.g., ECN workflows, Jira templates, decision databases).
  • Project Leadership: Lead small to mid-scale projects-setting technical direction, managing milestones and budgets, and aligning execution with strategic priorities.
  • Hands-On Development Support: Collaborate directly with development and test engineers to set up, operate, and analyze real hardware platforms, including lab bench systems, vehicle interfaces, and diagnostic tools. Help translate system models and requirements into physical configurations and testable prototypes.

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical or systems engineering, ideally within energy storage or related domains.
  • Demonstrated success in the design and development of energy storage systems.
  • Deep understanding of battery technologies, power electronics, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience with high-voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with safety and compliance standards related to energy storage (e.g., UL, ISO).
  • Background in systems modeling and simulation.
  • Proven project management capabilities-planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Experience with communication protocols like CAN/CANopen.

Where and When You'll Work:
  • This is an in-person role located at our Rochester, New York office-ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.

What Your Total Compensation & Benefits Package will look like:
Salary -$133,600 -$171,200 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Relocation: This role may be eligible for relocation assistance.

  • Performance Bonus
  • Generous Paid Time Off and 13 Paid Holidays
  • Affordable Medical plans and no-cost Dental & Vision options
  • 100% 401(k) match up to 6%
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability
  • Tuition Assistance Program
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with access to mental health care, legal support, and financial guidance
