Overview
Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Senior HPC System Administrator to support a major national laboratory.
The experienced and successful candidate shall work on independent tasks such as installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting within a team administering High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems. Administer Linux operating systems, including RHEL, Debian, CentOS, and Fedora. Develop and utilize scripting skills (e.g., shell, Python, Perl) for system administration tasks. Participate in all aspects of the HPC system lifecycle, including facility integration, standup, acceptance, and ongoing operations. Address all aspects of security, networks, filesystems, system software installation, and user support. Administer Linux operating systems in a clustered environment, including site integration with facilities, installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Utilize advanced scripting experience to enhance system administration efficiency. Manage various security components, such as LDAP, SSL certificates, and other third-party security products. Understand and work with HPC scheduling software (e.g., PBS, Moab, or SLURM), parallel filesystems (e.g., GPFS, Lustre), and interconnects (e.g., Infiniband, OmniPath, Aries). Develop infrastructure or system management enhancements necessary for the efficient operation of large-scale, advanced technology, or prototype systems. Collaborate with vendors and external partners to enable functionalities or diagnose issues on HPC systems. Work with research staff to support non-standard functionalities and pre-release software on HPC systems.
Responsibilities
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Install/provision/upgrade systems at scale, using configuration management and automation tools across multiple environments.
  • Configure and monitor the state of the HPC storage systems using software utilities, shell scripts, and command line interfaces.
  • Identify and troubleshoot a variety of issues, as well as test and implement solutions to such issues.
  • Work with HPC team and vendors in the delivery and deployment of large storage systems, to include facilities staff and hardware engineers.
  • Actively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen your knowledge base and proficiencies.
  • Build your professional development through mentorship partners and informal training.

Qualifications
  • BS in relevant discipline plus minimum 5 years or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job or a total of 11 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q Clearance.
  • Work is performed on site and therefore candidate must reside in the Albuquerque area.

Required Skills:
  • Extensive experience as a Linux Systems Administrator performing all activities such as installation, system integration, image development, patching, upgrades, and complex problem resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience in hardware systems analysis to determine system requirements, define system design (integrating hardware and software requirements), develop system architectures, and assess functionality and performance of systems.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
