Job description

Overview

Nakupuna Companies is seeking a highly skilled Linux System Administrator to support the U.S. Army Human Resources Command (HRC). This role is vital for maintaining, securing, and optimizing mission-critical systems that underpin Army-wide personnel operations.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with other system administrators, software developers, cybersecurity teams, and network engineers to ensure high availability, optimal performance, and robust reliability across enterprise applications and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this position. Management may assign additional duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

  • Server Maintenance: Install, configure, secure, and maintain enterprise Linux servers supporting critical web services.
  • Lifecycle & Configuration Management: Perform system patching, updates, configuration management, and baseline security enforcement.
  • Access Control: Manage user accounts, permissions, and security controls in strict alignment with DoD and Army policies.
  • Performance Monitoring: Proactively monitor system performance, capacity, and resource utilization to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Automation: Automate routine operational tasks using Bash, Python, Ansible, or standard configuration management tools.

Web & Application Server Management

  • Middleware Administration: Install, configure, and maintain robust web and application servers, including Apache, NGINX, Tomcat, WebLogic, WebSphere, or IIS.
  • Application Deployment: Support the deployment, hosting, and continuous lifecycle management of web-based applications.
  • Network Integration: Manage SSL/TLS certificates, DNS entries, and domain configurations to ensure secure and seamless operations.
  • High Availability: Maintain and optimize web application uptime, backend service reliability, and delivery performance.

Troubleshooting & Tier II/III Support

  • Technical Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving Linux systems, middleware, authentication services, and key integration points.
  • Advanced Incident Support: Provide Tier II and Tier III support for critical incidents affecting web services, content delivery, and system connectivity.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with network and cybersecurity teams to investigate and resolve issues related to performance, security, or access controls.

Security, Compliance & Monitoring

  • Hardening & Remediation: Apply DoD security hardening standards, perform vulnerability remediation, and ensure alignment with cybersecurity mandates.
  • Framework Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with NIST, Risk Management Framework (RMF), FISMA, and Army security guidelines.
  • Audit Readiness: Support continuous log monitoring, security audits, and comprehensive incident response activities.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Operational Documentation: Create and maintain precise documentation for system configurations, logical architectures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational workflows.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and recommend strategic improvements in automated processes, infrastructure monitoring, and overall system reliability.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with emerging technologies, methodologies, and tools relevant to Linux systems and enterprise hosting environments.
Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications: Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly beneficial:

  • Operating Systems: Linux Administration (Primary Focus), Windows Server
  • Virtualization & Infrastructure: VMware, Citrix, Nutanix
  • Log Management & Message Brokers: ESB, ELK Stack
  • Web Services: Enterprise Web Services & Middleware Platforms

Required Qualifications

  • Key Skills: Strong self-motivation, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Certifications: Certifications aligned with DoDD 8140 / DoD 8570 (e.g., Security+ CE, Network+ CE, CASP+ CE) may be required.
  • Experience: 3+ years of direct, hands-on experience in enterprise Linux system administration.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

Clearance Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance.
