An average day:
As a Linux Systems Administrator I, you will provide support for our enterprise-level Linux-based systems and will assist with installation, configuration, testing, and management of the operating systems, hardware, and software to support our IT architecture and business needs. Additionally, you will participate in information security, systems analysis, planning, monitoring, and system documentation activities. In this position you will:
  • Assist in installing, upgrading, patching, managing, and monitoring Linux systems, mostly RHEL.
  • Assist in configuring, managing, upgrading, and patching RedHat Satellite servers and package repositories.
  • Provide end-users and application users with support through incident management.
  • Learn and assist in performing compliance audits on production systems during the patch cycle and interface with Change Advisory Board (CAB) as needed for changes.
  • Leverage SolarWinds Orion and Splunk for real-time monitoring and alerting of responsible systems response.
  • Assist in setting up IDM, Ansible, baseline OS image and location, Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) on RedHat Linux.
  • Learn and assist in addressing vulnerabilities that are identified through regular compliance scans.
  • Learn and assist in ensuring Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance for servers in an air-gapped environment.
  • Provide legacy support for older applications that run on older versions of RHEL.
  • Assist in certificate management and deployment for services on responsible systems.
  • Update Federal Information Security Act (FISMA) information for compliance.

  • Strong understanding of the Linux operating system, including the command line interface and basic networking concepts.
  • Experience with scripting languages, such as Bash or Python.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license, may be required to travel between customer sites.
  • Must be able to present acceptable identification for customer badging and site access, such as a REAL ID compliant driver license, U.S. Passport, or other approved document from the GSA Required Identification List.
