Job description

Why Join Rincon Research Corporation (RRC)?

At Rincon Research Corporation, our primary business is innovating, developing, and fielding digital signal processing (DSP) products and services for the United States Defense and Intelligence Communities in support of national security.

Rincon Research Corporation (RRC), an employee owned company, is seeking a talented, tenacious, results-driven individual to work in a multi-disciplinary R&D environment with similarly motivated electrical engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, and analysts who are collectively responsible for creating custom digital signal processing solutions and leveraging them to make an operational mission impact.

We are seeking a Linux-focused Systems Administrator who will assist in developing and supporting enterprise solutions as part of a collaborative team. In this role, you will contribute to Rincon’s evolving development infrastructure while gaining hands-on experience in systems administration.

Come join the team that is creating cutting edge signal processing and geolocation systems for the future!

What are the primary responsibilities in the Linux Systems Administrator position?

As a Linux Systems Administrator at Rincon, you will be responsible for assisting in building, maintaining, and creating solutions that support the modernization and improvement of services and infrastructure. As a member of a team, you will work to develop techniques, create solutions, and build services that directly support company-wide efforts and continuity. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with deploying and managing Linux systems and services across multiple sites, leveraging automation and configuration management tools under team lead guidance.
  • Collaborate with senior administrators to support infrastructure projects and migrations—including upgrades, capacity improvements, and technology refreshes—with minimal disruption.
  • Participate in operational cycles, including patching, monitoring, maintenance, and performance optimization, ensuring required metrics for availability, security, and compliance are consistently met.
  • Contribute to documentation efforts, such as user guides, knowledge bases, and system maintenance records.
  • Follow established technical designs, processes, and procedures to maintain system standards.
  • Perform routine system health checks and assist in monitoring system performance, security, and availability, as well as supporting recovery events and backup/disaster recovery operations.
  • Learn and contribute to automation and scripting tasks, helping reduce manual effort by working with tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, and IaC frameworks.
  • Maintain lab environments in a clean, organized, and compliant state, ensuring they meet the set standard.

What required background will make you successful?

  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance (US Citizenship Required)
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related discipline. May be substituted for 5+ years of experience
  • Requires security certification in compliance with DOD 8570 within 90 days of hire
  • Requires professional certification in one or more areas within 6 months of hire
    • Examples include RHCSA, RHCE, CKA, CCNA

Preferred skills:

  • Knowledge of Linux systems and service administration (RHEL, Rocky, CentOS) with hands-on experience in remediation and patching.
  • Basic familiarity with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform, with an interest in learning Infrastructure as Code and Git practices.Understanding and some experience with enterprise storage platforms and supporting technologies such as SAN, NFS, iSCSI, block, and object storage.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as KVM and container platforms such as Docker.
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Subnets) and ability to assist in troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Working knowledge of security compliance frameworks and how to apply them – including STIGs, DISA Benchmarks, CMMC, or CUI.
  • Some experience or a strong interest in learning scripting or programming, such as Bash or Python, to support automation, system tooling, and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset, with a willingness to learn from senior administrators.

Where is the position located?

This position is located at our Tucson, AZ Headquarters.

*The likely salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

What benefits does RRC offer?

  • 100% employer-paid premiums for family medical and dental insurance, employee life insurance, short-term and long-term disability (STD & LTD)
  • Flexible reimbursement spending accounts for medical expense and dependent care
