Job description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Intersect Group is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and enhance communication firmware for embedded Linux based devices. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, solving complex technical challenges, and contributing throughout the entire software development lifecycle.

In this position, you will develop new firmware features, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, support networking and communication protocols, and improve existing code bases. You will collaborate closely with other engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable embedded solutions while driving product innovation and quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware applications using C and C++

• Design and implement new firmware features for embedded Linux based devices

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex firmware, hardware, and system level issues

• Develop and support Linux drivers, kernel modules, Device Tree configurations, and bootloader functionality

• Enhance networking and communication capabilities including embedded IP networking and packet based communications

• Improve existing code, optimize performance, and expand automated testing coverage

• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design activities throughout the software development lifecycle

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver high quality firmware solutions and product enhancements

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• 4+ years of embedded firmware development experience with flexibility for highly qualified candidates

• Strong programming experience with C and C++ in embedded environments

• Hands on experience developing within embedded Linux environments using command line tools and utilities

• Experience with Linux drivers, kernel modules, Device Tree, U Boot, and GNU Debugger GDB

• Knowledge of Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, Buildroot, or similar development and build management tools

• Experience supporting embedded IP networking, packet based networking, and communication protocols

• Familiarity with serial interfaces, RAM, Flash memory, and low level hardware interactions

• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem solving skills

• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with development teams and stakeholders

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience programming in Assembly language

• Familiarity with RF networking technologies

• Knowledge of embedded security and encryption mechanisms

• Experience with product lifecycle management and software development methodologies

• Exposure to C# development is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Hybrid work schedule with significant onsite collaboration

• Monday and Friday onsite participation required

• Additional onsite presence may be required as business needs evolve

• Direct collaboration with firmware engineers, lead developers, and engineering leadership
