The Position:
The Red Hat Linux Systems Engineer (Journeyman) provides Tier II system administration and operational support for Linux-based environments supporting Joint Staff Command and Control (C2) systems. This role ensures system availability, performance, and security within a classified enterprise environment while supporting both primary and contingency operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and resource utilization.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and OS-level issues.
  • Apply patches, upgrades, and security updates in compliance with change management.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Support backup, recovery, and system restoration processes.
  • Maintain system logs and ensure audit and compliance requirements are met.
  • Support integration with enterprise storage and infrastructure systems.
  • Collaborate with network, database, and application teams to ensure system reliability.
  • Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.


Additional Information:

  • On-site at the Pentagon.
Requirements:
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility; AND
  • DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE); AND
  • 10+ years of relevant IT experience; AND
  • Experience administering Linux/UNIX systems in enterprise environments.

PREFERRED:

Linux Administration

  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration
  • Experience with system patching, package management (yum/dnf), and repository management
  • Familiarity with system performance tuning and troubleshooting

Scripting & Automation

  • Experience with Bash or shell scripting for automation
  • Familiarity with task automation and cron job management

Security & Compliance

  • Experience applying DISA STIGs to Linux systems
  • Familiarity with vulnerability remediation and IAVA patching

Virtualization & Infrastructure

  • Experience with VMware environments supporting Linux systems
  • Familiarity with virtual server provisioning and lifecycle management

Enterprise Operations

  • Experience working in classified or DoD enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with C2 systems
