Description

Join a team working with the Navy's Department of Defense Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) and be part of a team that supports some of the world's most complex and technically advanced systems. This role offers you the chance to work on cutting-edge technology in a mission-centered environment. You'll have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in maintaining the infrastructure that drives key research and development for the Department of Defense. We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join our team and provide expert-level support for critical systems, services, and devices in both classified and unclassified spaces. This position involves working closely with other infrastructure teams to ensure system availability, reliability, and security in a high-performance computing (HPC) environment.

As a Senior Linux Administrator, you will:

• Provide expert-level administration of RedHat Linux systems, ensuring optimal performance and security.

• Perform systems enhancement, configuration, maintenance, installation, and software upgrades.

• Lead a team of high-performing Linux administrators, providing guidance, technical expertise, and project leadership.

• Foster a collaborative and productive team environment, sharing lessons learned and best practices.

• Maintain and manage the Enterprise Satellite server, ensuring it meets the organization's software deployment and updates needs.

• Automate routine and complex tasks using Ansible, streamlining operations and improving efficiency.

• Monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels, adhering to established policies, procedures, and service level agreements.

• Identify and address performance issues and optimize the production environment for mission-critical systems.

• Perform acceptance testing of modules, subsystems, and total systems.

• Responsible for software installation, configuration, and ensuring adherence to configuration guidelines.

• Ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

• Maintain documentation and records to demonstrate adherence to regulatory requirements.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and qualifications:

• Technical Expertise: You have in-depth experience with Linux server administration, particularly in high-security environments, and are comfortable working with both classified and unclassified systems.

• Collaboration: You work well in a team and can communicate effectively with network engineers, security specialists, and other infrastructure teams.

• Problem-Solving: You are skilled in identifying issues, troubleshooting, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.

• Automation Skills: Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl and tools such as Puppet or Ansible to automate system administration tasks.

• Security Awareness: Strong understanding of security practices, particularly in a DoD environment. Familiarity with STIGs.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience preferred (additional experience may be substituted for the degree)

At least 6 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration

DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification required- Security + and OS cert, Linux+, RedHat, etc. (waiver may be provided to obtain the OS certification)

General knowledge of Linux and general Unix operating systems concepts as well as systems administration experience

Ability to develop and maintain documentation on system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:

Experience supporting virtual machines, mass storage, and email servers

Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls)

Familiarity with DoD security guidelines and requirements (STIGs, FISMA, etc.)

Experience with automation and scripting (Puppet, Ansible, Bash, Python, Perl)

Experience working in a classified environment

Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and infrastructure issues

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $68.00/hr.
