Server Administrator

This position reports to the Director of Information and Multimedia Technology and is responsible for the administration, management, maintenance, and security of the campus and remote systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for the administration, management, maintenance, and security of institutional systems/devices, including (but not limited to):
    • Microsoft Windows Server environment (includes Active Directory and network shares)
    • Linux Server environment (includes various Linux operating systems)
    • Maintain certificates as needed for all server environments
    • Maintain the Microsoft 365 environment (including licensing, Entra ID, Defender for Servers, Microsoft Intune, and Exchange Online)
    • Manages the DSCC e-mail systems including Exchange Online, the email security gateway, and email archiver
    • Virtualization hypervisors, virtual servers, and clustered storage
    • Server backup and recovery
  • Responsible for the onboarding and separation of all faculty, staff, and adjunct faculty. This will include Zoom administration.
  • Develop and recommend changes to the structure and/or design of the administrative systems based on growth, security needs, vendor changes, and other factors.
  • Secure the institution's data by monitoring access, patching and upgrading systems, and using vulnerability tools.
  • Provide recommendations related to the backup and restoration of systems in planning for recovery from disasters such as tornadoes, fires, and earthquakes.
  • This position will act as a backup to the Network/Security Analyst when necessary.
  • Cooperate with other Information and Multimedia Technology employees to ensure the institution's IT resources fully support the objectives of the institution.
  • Other related duties may be assigned based on business needs and at the discretion of management.

Working Conditions:

Moderate work that requires sustained or repetitive movements.ย  The majority of time is spent standing, stooping, climbing, bending, and/or shifting positions.ย  Requires daily walking to perform tasks.ย  Frequent lifting and/or carrying of weights up to 50 pounds; use of tools and equipment requiring a minimum of body movement or effort to control.ย  The position will require traveling to all DSCC locations as needed. Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors.ย  Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions.ย  Frequency or severity are limited.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work with server operating systems and related technologies.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft 365 technologies.
  • Ability to manage several tasks at one time and react appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate patience and listening skills when working with peers and users.
  • Demonstrate the capacity and willingness to expand one's knowledge base and adapt to new technology.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of network infrastructures including firewalls, switches, and wireless.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively and work with a variety of computer users at different levels of expertise.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experienceย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

  • Education requirements include an Associate degree or higher in a computer-related field.
  • Requires at least three years of experience working in a computer-related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows server and desktop operating systems, as well as modern Linux systems, is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience as a systems administrator is highly desirable.

Minimum starting salary is $53,292 annually ($27.32 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $66,642.
