Job description

Job Requirements
I. General Summary
Under direct supervision of the Linen Services Manager, performs duties as the senior Linen Service Technician. These duties include overseeing the daily work expectations, coordinate departmental activities, and provide consistent level of leadership. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.
II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
1. Management of Processed Linen Material: Oversees and participates in the management of processed linen material to include compliance of all specified departmental procedures by the Linen Service Technicians. These procedures include accurate linen weight documentation and thorough inspection processes of all inbound processed linen material.
A. Assists in the unloading of linen carts from the Receiving department and transports to the Laundry department.
B. Ensures all linen cart weights are documented accurately and submitted for data entry on a daily basis. This includes resolving any discrepancies resulting from human error and .or non-compliance of departmental procedures.
C. Ensures all inspection procedures are being performed and reports any issues pertaining to compromised linen material to departmental management.
2. Management of Soiled Linens: Oversees departmental activity and procedures for the retrieval and shipping of soiled linen material on a daily basis. This is to include daily scheduling, on- demand service and compliance of UMMS infection control procedures.
A. Ensures the retrieval of soiled linen material is timely and encompasses all designated service areas.
B. Ensures all Linen Service Technicians are exercising safe practices when handling and transporting soiled linen material. This is to include utilization of PPE (personal protection equipment) in order to divert any exposure of infectious bacteria.
C. Ensures all soiled linen carts are weighed and documented prior to shipping for reprocessing. This includes certifying the "Soiled Linen Weight" sheets are submitted daily for data entry.
3. Linen Replenishment and Par-Level Management: Ensures the proper replenishment of processed linen material to all designated Nursing, Clinical and Diagnostic departments on a daily basis. This is to include proper utilization of Handheld computers for inventorying linen par-level locations, safe transport of linen carts, submission of "assignment completion" documents and proper restocking techniques of linen par-level locations.
A. Provides training and observes proper utilization of Handheld computers to accurately inventory linen par-level locations. This is to include proper downloading procedures and maintaining secure storage techniques of Handheld computers.
B. Performs routine "shadowing" of Linen staff to ensure all aspects of replenishment procedures are being completed accurately and completely.
C. Assists with data entry of "assignment completion" forms into the assigned employee's performance spreadsheet to monitor accomplishments and customer satisfaction.
4. Management of Scrub Apparel: Oversees and participatesin the replenishment and retrieval of scrub apparel of all designated Scrub machines on a daily basis. This is to include ensuring all specified procedures for scrub apparel replenishment and operation of scrub machines are in compliance.
A. Provides training to all Linen staff members and performs periodic "shadowing" to ensure proper scrub apparel replenishment of the scrub machines.
B. Performs periodic data entry of new "users" into software database and accesses data reports to determine scrub machine performance.
C. Ensures scheduled retrieval of soiled scrub apparel is performed consistently and the preparation for shipping to the contracted vendor for reprocessing.
5. Departmental Linen Management: Routinely is responsible for overseeing of all other Linen related responsibilities in order to ensure all job requirements is completed. This is to include, periodic washing .drying of Pediatric clothing, sorts and replenishes departmental linen stock locations, stewardship of department, embroidering .stamping of LabCoats and Scrub Apparel and all other duties as assigned.
A. As necessary, sorts and washes Pediatric clothing in order to expedite linen service to Pediatric Nursing units.
B. Upon arrival of processed linen from contracted vendor for cleaning process, replenishes designated par-level locations, ensuring compliance of proper restocking techniques.
C. Frequently makes contact with contracted vendor for linen reprocessing to ensure service performance and .or service changes are being communicated. Advises departmental management of emergency any situations that may impede the delivery of linen services for patient care.
D. On a daily basis, ensures the Linen Service Technicians are attending to the stewardship of the department, to include removal of common trash and periodic cleaning of employee break room.
Performs all other duties as assigned in order to ensure all departmental functions and customer service requests are being met.

III. Education and Experience
1. High School diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
2. Two years of service work or equivalent experience, performing all key elements of linen distribution required.
IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to read, write and comprehend English. Ability to perform simple Math. Strong verbal communication skills.
2. Strong abilities in leadership, organization and accountability.
3. Ability to follow instructions and completing tasks in a timely manner
