About Traer Municipal Utilities

At TMU, we manage the daily system operations of the electric, water, gas, sewer, generation and internet services that Traer depends on and TMU provides the local service and support that the community can count on. TMU’s electric department services the city of Traer, 11 miles of rural lines and provides service to a close neighboring town.

Position Overview

TMU is seeking a skilled, safety-minded Journeyman Lineman to join our electric department as Lineman Supervisor. This role is perfect for an experienced professional looking for the next level in their carrier or to step away from exhausting big-utility travel and grueling overtime, trading it for a stable, community-focused career. At TMU you will oversee and perform construction, maintenance, and operation of our municipal overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines (12.5 kV and 2.4 kV systems).
  • Troubleshoot electrical outages, system faults, and equipment failures safely and efficiently.
  • Install transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, meters, and pole-line hardware.
  • Mentor and provide safety guidance to apprentice crew members
  • Maintain excellent public relations while interacting directly with local residents and businesses.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a certified Journeyman Lineman apprenticeship program.
  • Valid Iowa Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A
  • Proficient in pole climbing, hot-line tool operations, and bucket/digger truck operations.
  • Must reside or relocate within a 20 minute response time of Traer for emergency call outs.
