Duties/Responsibilities
The Journeyman Lineman plays a key role in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting JCREMC's electric distribution system. This position involves working on energized and de-energized lines, responding to outages, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring the safety of the public and your crew.
This position is a field-oriented role reporting to the Manager of Electric Operations. It is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is represented by a collective bargaining unit.
  1. Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electric distribution lines.
  2. Perform pole climbing and bucket work; set transformers, conductors, capacitors, regulators, and related line hardware.
  3. Conduct system patrols and hazard identification; report unsafe conditions promptly.
  4. Interpret staking sheets, work orders, system maps, and specifications for electric distribution work.
  5. Safety operate vehicles and specialized equipment such digger derricks, bucket trucks, forklifts, and trenchers.
  6. Lead job site safety briefings and ensure strict adherence to safety policies and industry standards.
  7. Mentor and direct apprentices and support crew members as needed
  8. Complete required documentation including time tickets, service orders, and briefing forms.
  9. Support outage restoration efforts, including emergency response and unscheduled overtime.
  10. Interact professionally with cooperative members during planned work and outage situations.

Do you have what we are looking for?
Required:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Valid Indiana Class A Commercial Driver's License (Class A CDL)
  • Completion of an approved line apprenticeship program with on-the-job training hours.
  • Minimum of three years as a Journeyman Lineman in electric utility distribution operations, including distribution system construction and maintenance.

Preferred candidates will have the following:
  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
  • Completion of the HEATS apprenticeship program
