Position: Senior Data Engineer

FocusPoint is partnering with a leading enterprise organization to add a Senior Data Engineer to their growing data engineering function. This is a senior‑level, hands‑on architecture and engineering role supporting large‑scale capital planning, project tracking, asset lifecycle, and executive reporting initiatives.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in complex data environments, enjoys owning solutions end‑to‑end, and is comfortable working directly with business and technical stakeholders. You will help shape the technical direction of critical data products and operate as a trusted engineering leader within the program.

What You’ll Do

Data Architecture & Solution Design

  • Architect end‑to‑end data solutions across CapEx domains (budgets, forecasts, assets, vendor data, project structures).

  • Design medallion‑layer lakehouse architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold) using Azure Databricks and Delta Lake.

  • Define canonical data models and integration patterns across multiple enterprise systems.

  • Produce architecture decision records and solution design documentation for technical governance.

Pipeline Engineering & Integration

  • Build and operate production‑grade pipelines in Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks.

  • Develop PySpark and Python transformations with strong code quality, testing, and CI/CD practices.

  • Integrate with ERP, project management, cost management, and API/SFTP data sources.

  • Support semantic layers, stored procedures, and views in Azure SQL for reporting and analytics.

Data Governance, Quality & Observability

  • Implement data quality frameworks, validation rules, and expectation testing.

  • Apply governance standards using Unity Catalog (RBAC/ABAC, lineage, classification, PII handling).

  • Establish monitoring, SLA alerting, and data freshness checks across pipelines.

  • Maintain lineage documentation and contribute to enterprise data cataloging.

Production Stability & Reliability

  • Ensure platform reliability through monitoring, incident response, and root‑cause analysis.

  • Maintain runbooks and track SLAs for data availability and accuracy.

  • Optimize performance and cost across Databricks, ADF, and Azure SQL workloads.

Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Translate business requirements into actionable technical designs.

  • Present architecture proposals and trade‑offs to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Raise engineering maturity through standards, reusable patterns, and CI/CD improvements.

  • Operate as a technical owner with accountability for delivery and solution integrity.

What We’re Looking For
  • 10+ years of professional data engineering experience.

  • 5+ years of deep, hands‑on Azure data platform expertise.

  • Expert‑level Databricks experience (PySpark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, cluster optimization).

  • Strong Azure Data Factory experience at production scale.

  • Advanced SQL skills across Azure SQL and/or Synapse.

  • Strong Python and PySpark engineering fundamentals.

  • Experience with ADLS Gen2, networking concepts, Managed Identity, Key Vault, RBAC.

  • Proven ability to deliver production pipelines with monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.

  • Experience with dimensional modeling, canonical modeling, and analytical schema design.

  • Hands‑on Azure DevOps experience (branching, PRs, automated testing, deployment pipelines).

  • Experience with data quality, observability, lineage, and governance at enterprise scale.
