Job description

Smithtown is looking for an experienced line cook to prepare high-quality meals in accordance with food health and safety regulations and company standards. The cook’s responsibilities include following instructions relating to the timely preparation of food orders, organizing workstations, and assisting other cooks as needed. Ensuring that the kitchen, refrigerators and storerooms are kept clean and tidy. A line cook must be able to learn and successfully execute various cooking techniques and methods to prepare meals that meet our customers’ expectations.

To be a successful line cook in our company you must be punctual, have a strong work ethic, work well with others, be willing to follow directives given by your supervisors, have a strong sense of cleanliness, personal hygiene and pride in your professional appearance and performance.

Line Cook Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and assemble ingredients for menu items.
  • Prepare high-quality meals and food items according to company recipes.
  • Store excess food at the correct temperature in order to avoid spoilage.
  • Ensure that food portions and food presentation meet company standards.
  • Monitor par levels of inventory, report items needed to Sous Chefs.
  • Ensure that cooking utensils are clean before each use.
  • Clean and sterilize food preparation areas.
  • Assist other cooks to ensure that food orders are completed in a timely manner.
  • Efficiently resolve problems with customers’ orders.
  • Prepare special orders for guests and accommodate food allergies strictly
  • Ensure that food health and safety regulations are followed.
  • Engage and follow professional codes of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook at all times
  • Master each station in the kitchen

Line Cook Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • ServSafe food handling certification is preferred. Food Service Handlers card required
  • Sound knowledge of cooking methods and techniques and/or a desire to learn
  • Proven experience working as a Cook.
  • The ability to follow recipes.
  • The ability to work in a team.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Effective communication skills.
