What is a line associate?

Line Associates are workers who perform tasks on a production or assembly line in factories or manufacturing plants. Their responsibilities typically include assembling products, inspecting items for quality, packaging goods, and ensuring that production targets and safety standards are met. Line Associates often work as part of a team, following specific instructions and processes to keep the production line running smoothly. This job usually requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to stand for extended periods. Training is often provided on the job, and positions may be entry-level or require prior manufacturing experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a line associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Line Associate, you need strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow standardized procedures, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with basic manufacturing equipment, safety protocols, and sometimes barcode scanning or inventory systems is typically required. Teamwork, reliability, and effective communication are important soft skills that set top performers apart. These abilities ensure production efficiency, product quality, and a safe, collaborative work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by line associates in a manufacturing environment, and how can they be addressed?

These can be addressed through thorough onboarding, clear communication with supervisors, and ongoing training on equipment and safety protocols. Collaborating with team members and staying attentive to workflow adjustments can also help Line Associates adapt more easily and maintain productivity.

Job description

Leo Auto Group is hiring a Parts Counter Associate to work the front line of our parts department. You'll help customers and technicians get the right parts, fast. Whether it's a walk-in customer doing their own brake job or a tech in the shop waiting on a part to finish a repair, you're the person who keeps things moving.

This role is part customer service, part inventory management, and part detective work. You'll look up parts, verify fitment, place orders, manage stock, and handle returns. If you like solving puzzles and working with your hands as much as your head, this is a good fit.

No automotive parts experience required. If you're sharp, reliable, and willing to learn the catalog systems, we'll get you there.

What You'll Do

- Help customers and service technicians identify and locate the correct parts

- Look up parts using electronic catalogs and ordering systems

- Process sales, returns, and warranty claims at the counter

- Receive, verify, and stock incoming parts shipments

- Maintain accurate inventory records and keep the department organized

- Place special orders and follow up on backorders

- Answer phones and respond to parts inquiries

- Coordinate with suppliers on availability and pricing

What We're Looking For

- Strong customer service instincts - you're helpful without being asked

- Comfortable using computers and learning new software

- Detail-oriented - wrong part number means a wasted trip or a stalled repair

- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stay on your feet through the shift

- Good communicator who can work with techs, customers, and vendors

- High school diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have (Not Required)

- Previous parts counter, auto parts retail, or inventory experience

- Familiarity with OEM or aftermarket parts catalogs

- Basic mechanical knowledge or terminology

What We Offer

- Health, dental, and vision insurance

- 401(k)

- Paid time off

- Employee vehicle purchase program

- Parts department career path - counter to management
