Job description

Job Title – Laboratory Technician

Department – Tracer Diagnostics

Reports to – Laboratory Supervisor


Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for sample preparation of water and oil samples before instrumental analysis. They will also be responsible for notifying the lab manager when results are out of specification and complying with defined quality standards.


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Sort samples and log them into the LIMS system.
  • Prepare samples for instrumental analysis by following established methods and procedures.
  • Ensures laboratory stations are cleaned and stocked at the end of each shift.
  • Prepares QA/QC samples for analysis following established protocols.
  • Help to promote safe work practices and higher standards of performance.
  • Support and uphold HS&E policies and procedures of NCS and the customer.
  • Other duties shall be assigned as required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Chemical Laboratory Technology Diploma and/or 2 years of lab experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and LIMS software.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and parallel process laboratory tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum, petrochemicals and laboratory chemicals without allergic reaction or nausea.
  • Ability to stand, bend and sit for extended time periods.
  • Ability to work in climate and non-climate-controlled area (95% climate, 5% non-climate).
  • Ability to move or lift 50lbs.

Additional Information

  • Status: Overtime Exempt
  • Employment Classification: Full-time, Regular
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm, on call 24/7 for technical related questions
  • Travel: 5% domestic travel and international travel may be required
  • Target Discretionary Bonus: Eligible
  • Criminal background check required for all positions
  • Safety sensitive positions will require additional pre-employment testing
