Position Overview:
As the Managing Director, you will manage the LIHTC Production team, which is responsible for originating, underwriting and closing Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) transactions. This position will manage internal support from other Aegon departments including legal, tax credit asset management, investor relations, accounting, and engineering. The Managing Director will be relied upon to execute the LIHTC acquisition strategy, oversee the underwriting process, provide technical expertise and make sound investment recommendations. The Managing Director will be expected to develop new business opportunities with new and existing developers accounting for 25-30% of the Community Investments production goal annually. This position may be called upon to interact with investors as necessary.Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the LIHTC Production team, including oversight of Production Officers and the underwriting team.

  • Collaborate with LIHTC leadership team to drive communication, alignment, and unity across the LIHTC platform; foster a culture of constructive feedback, creative problem-solving, continuous improvement, and enthusiasm for change.

  • Screen new opportunities and collaborate with Production Officers to make recommendations to Investor Relations and Head of LIHTC on which transactions to pursue.

  • Review and approve Investment Committee Packages and Letters of Intent.

  • Train and develop new and existing staff.

  • Monitor LIHTC market conditions, including pricing and legislative updates.

  • Collaborate with LIHTC Asset Management as needed on new and existing investments.

  • Originate and facilitate new business opportunities with Low Income Housing Tax Credits developers.

  • Ability to interface with senior management, investment committee, investor relations, legal, tax credit asset management, and other lines of business as necessary.

  • Work with legal throughout the lifecycle of each transaction to successfully construct and negotiate LOIs, term sheets, partnership agreements, and other partnership closing documents as required.

  • Extend the platform by opening new markets, leading new initiatives and/or launching new products that will ultimately become a part of Aegon's standard offerings.

  • Effective leadership and management of team level and ministerial duties. This includes development, mentoring, and setting objectives for meeting department goals.


Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree with an emphasis in finance, accounting, mathematics, real estate, business and/or economics

  • Ten (10) years of work experience in real estate with a focus on acquisitions and underwriting, preferably with a financial institution or a low-income housing tax credit syndicator.

  • An existing book of clients and/or industry recognition to attract new developers to Aegon.

  • Seasoned expert in underwriting and production, negotiation skills, presentation skills.

  • Effective leadership and management skills.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Excel (financial modeling of tax credit transactions) is required in order to perform and/or manage the financial analysis and preliminary underwriting of each transaction.

  • The ability to exercise independent judgment working successfully within a team-oriented environment.

  • Strong investment acumen, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work under minimal supervision in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The salary for this position generally ranges between $225,000 - $270,000 annually. This range is an estimate, based on potential qualifications and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, the position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan / Individual Performance and is at the Company's discretion.
