Job description

The Opportunity:

Step into a high-impact role where your lighting design expertise helps shape spaces, win new work, and strengthen client relationships. As Glumac's next Senior Lighting Designer in Portland, Oregon you'll bring creativity, technical depth, and business development instinct to projects that matter-while helping grow our presence in the market and mentor the next generation of designers.

Position Summary:

We're looking for an experienced architectural lighting leader who can balance design excellence with client-facing collaboration and project execution. In this role, you'll lead lighting design efforts from concept through technical review, support business development, and partner closely with internal teams and clients to deliver thoughtful, compelling solutions. Essential Job Functions:

        Lead architectural lighting design efforts across a range of project types

        Develop creative, technically sound lighting concepts and design solutions

        Present ideas to clients and support strong, trusted client relationships

        Contribute to business development and help identify new project opportunities

        Perform technical reviews to ensure quality, accuracy, and design integrity

        Mentor and support designers through feedback, collaboration, and guidance

        Coordinate effectively with project teams to support successful delivery

        Use Revit and AGi32 to support design development and documentation

Required Qualifications:

        10+ years of experience in architectural lighting design

        Demonstrated experience in a client-facing role

        Strong technical knowledge and ability to perform detailed design reviews

        Experience supporting business development or bringing in new work

        Proficiency with Revit and AGi32

        Experience managing presentations, clients, and project expectations

        Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

        Background as a lighting design leader or senior contributor on complex projects

        Experience mentoring junior designers and shaping team development

        Proven success generating new business or contributing to sales goals

        Strong portfolio of architectural lighting design work

        Project management experience in a consulting or design environment

Work Environment and Location:

This position offers a hybrid work environment, with a requirement of two in-office days per week in our Portland, Oregon office.  All candidates must be located in and eligible to work in the U.S.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 (depending on experience)

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the compensation scale for this role. Actual salaries will be determined based on location, experience, responsibilities, and qualifications. This salary range is just one component of Glumac's total compensation package, which includes benefits, professional development opportunities, and additional incentives.

The Glumac Lighting Studio collaborates across all Glumac offices on projects, working with many different clients and design styles providing electrical lighting and daylighting designs to clients at all levels of project participation from design assist to full project design-bid-build involvement. Lighting Designers come from lighting design and architectural backgrounds meaning our projects not only fit the quantitative needs of projects but fit the qualitative and aesthetic design goals.  

Sustainable design is at the forefront of all of our lighting design projects.  The Glumac Lighting Design Studio takes a broad approach to building performance encompassing occupant experience and resource efficiency.  We create aesthetically pleasing, cost-effective, and practical solutions that fit within the defined budget.  We prioritize the use of energy-efficient technologies and applications while scrutinizing emerging technologies before recommending them.  

Glumac lighting designers are members of the IESNA, IALD, are LEED AP's, and Lighting Certified (LC) by the National Council on Qualifications for Lighting Professionals.  We offer expertise in lighting design and in-depth coordination with other disciplines.  Along the way, our designers can provide expressive conceptual sketches and renderings as well as detailed computer models developing the necessary pieces of the design.  Lighting designers also coordinate mock-ups, on-site aiming, and controls programming.  We look for genuinely passionate people that can thrive in a collaborative environment, care deeply about sustainability, and are not afraid of bringing new engineering innovations to building projects.[GB1]
