Job description

Description:

QSSI is looking for a Lighting Manufacturer Laboratory Technician to join the team. You will be expected to perform manual and automation testing to validate data sources, extract data, apply transformation logic, and load data into target tables. Before introducing them to the market, you will work closely with data engineering teams to ensure a sustainable testing approach for our new lighting products. We also run ongoing quality assurance testing on the products we manufacture to ensure we remain aligned with ETL standards and that our products continue to meet and exceed our stated environmental capabilities (Heat/Cold, Rain, Snow, etc.), as we are an approved certifying manufacturer.


Primary Responsibilities

· Conducts a wide range of test procedures on equipment to the applicable standards and interprets the test results.

· Performs tests and calculations, compiles data, and summarizes test results into test reports and checklists. Verifies calculations are consistent with the measurements' results.

· Assembles and disassembles test samples, hooks up laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing, and operates most laboratory test equipment without supervision.

· Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment, and work area following tests and carries out assigned laboratory clean-up duties.

· Notes and records discrepancies or characteristics of products that may appear before or during the tests and refers them to the senior lab Tech, Project Engineer, or Manager.

· Tests the Project Engineer’s requests and provides general and specific information about the testing process or status of a work order to assist the Project Engineer and improve overall customer service and satisfaction.


The physical demands of the job are:

· Lifting Demands: Lift to 75 pounds on an occasional basis, floor to waist with assistance, Lift to 40 pounds frequently, floor to waist, Carry up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis, up to 25 feet, Push/Pull up to 40 pounds often, and Push/Pull more than 40 pounds on an occasional basis with assistance

· Postural Demands: Standing & Walking more than 75% of the shift, bending/stooping, and squatting/kneeling frequently during the shift.

· Miscellaneous Demands: Griping, manipulation, fingering -continuous, Variable hand/power tool use – frequent, Two-person tasks using assistive devices for lifting, pulling, and pushing, including engine stands, hand trucks, pallet jacks, and hoists

Requirements:

· An associate degree in engineering technology or 1-5 years of related experience, equivalent education, and experience; a technical certificate or an ETL Tester Certification is a plus.

· Experience in operating, maintaining, and calibrating test equipment.

· Working knowledge of test methods for lighting performance is preferred.

· Working knowledge of Energy Efficiency Verification program requirements for Lighting Products preferred

· Excel at research, problem-solving, and project management.

· Ability to review, understand, and effectively convey technical information.

· Knowledgeable of safe practices; ability to move equipment around with assistance or independently; follow safety practices;

· Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to teach others and work independently and as a team player.

· Exceptional time and project management skills to efficiently handle various and multiple project requests to meet timelines for completion and on-time delivery.

· Strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers.
