Job description


Systems Drafter

This is a full-time position working with the systems integration and rigging teams to provide system submittal drawings, Design Development (DD), and Construction Documents (CD) as required per job. A successful candidate will be a motivated individual who has the technical drafting and technical analytical skills to complete tasks on time and meet or exceed VLS standards.


Reports to: System Designer


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures goals are met for assigned project drawings and submittals.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with company drafting standards.
  • Review bid documents, plans, specifications, and bills of material for both private and public bid projects to produce drawings that meet the plans and specifications.
  • Verify dimensions, layouts, quantities, product selection, and compliance of project requirements.
  • Assist outside sales staff by providing detailed riser diagrams, equipment layouts, lighting calculations, and architectural lighting layouts.
  • Create Design Development (DD), and Construction Documents (CD) for lighting and rigging projects in CAD and Revit.
  • Submit all drawings for approval, and complete red-line corrections within specified timelines.
  • Maintain and organize project files, revisions, and drawing documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Key Performance Indicators:
  • Drawing Accuracy: Rate of errors detected and corrected in final drawings, measured by number of revisions required per project. Accuracy of drawings relative to scale, content, and layout.
  • Project cycle time from drafting request to fulfillment.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None




Travel Requirement:
  • This position requires occasional travel for site surveys, meetings, and work at remote offices. Mileage and applicable expenses will be reimbursed by VLS for these trips.

Qualifications and Education:
  • Associate's degree in drafting, theatre technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
  • Working knowledge of Revit is required; proficiency in Revit is desired.
  • Knowledge of other 2D/3D CAD software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards and principles.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce accurate high-quality drawings.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of electrical riser diagrams, electrical power systems, dimming and control, architectural and theatrical lighting, entertainment lighting equipment, both motorized and manual theatrical rigging systems, pipe grids, curtain tracks, and curtain systems is desired.
  • Experience working with ETC architectural and theatrical lighting products is desired.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must be able to pass a 5-panel drug screen.
