Position Overview:

The Utility Lighting Installer is skilled in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground lighting distribution systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive and are subject to change. The position performs additional duties as requested to meet the priorities and ongoing needs of the organization.

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair of energized and de-energized overhead and underground distribution and lighting systems
  • Conduct pre-job planning based on job prints and work orders
  • Working knowledge of overhead and underground line work, construction standards and installation
  • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit, and underground pulling equipment
  • Understand sloping, shoring, excavation, minimum approach distance and ladder requirements
  • Ability to maintain, check out, position, and safely operate bucket truck
  • Performs excavation of dirt, rock, concrete, and other materials using hand tools and power equipment
  • Support safety initiatives using personal protective equipment, and line protection devices
Qualifications and Requirements:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Advanced ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, work orders, instructions, and procedures
  • Understands equipment and work site set up and grounding
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, use of the Internet, email, iPad, and industry related programs
  • Proficiency in critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem resolution
  • Maintain and safely operate company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelines for energized and de-energized working conditions
  • Exceptional ability to actively listen and communicate effectively (written, verbal, and nonverbal)
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Technical degree, 1-3 years' field experience, extensive mechanical ability, or a combination of education and/or experience
  • CDL A
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 60 pounds
  • Able to properly inspect, wear and remove OSHA required personal protective equipment
  • Accurately perform basic math calculations to include addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and the use of measurements
  • Ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, and related equipment
  • Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces
  • Frequently perform overhead work requiring the full motion use of both hands/arms and securing 30 pounds
  • Possess hand dexterity and strength to operate common hand and power tools
  • Must be able to stand and walk on pavement/ground for prolonged periods of time
  • Requires rigorous physical work
  • Frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, push or pull
Travel Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be fully insured according to South Carolina law
  • Maintain a driving record with less than 6 points
  • Ability to travel within Gregory Electric's territory when required
  • Proven ability to operate a vehicle safely and within legal and regulatory requirements
Work Environment:
  • Some exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold, ice, wind)
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for 8 to 12 hours per day
  • Able to work overtime when requested
  • Noise level is moderate to loud
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites
