Position: Substitute YARD and CAFE DUTY SUPERVISOR
School: Lighthouse Charter School
Location: 899 Bryte Avenue, West Sacramento, CA 95605
Job Status: 4.25 hours
Reports to: School Principal
Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the site administrator, supervises students on school grounds and/or in the cafeteria or lunch area, maintaining order and safety in accordance with specific rules at each site. Provide small group support for interventions for students (training on material provided).
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Communicates with students, staff, parents and the public using tact, diplomacy and courtesy in sometimes confrontational or stressful situations.
2. Work with varied aged students in the classroom on small group intervention materials.
3. Supervises students on school grounds. May also include supervising students while entering site or exiting site.
4. Maintain order and assuring safe practices in accordance with school rules and basic good judgment.
5. Assists administration and the custodial staff in identifying unsafe conditions and/or faulty equipment on the school grounds.
6. Uses special skills or unique experience to enrich the recreational activities on playground for all students.
7. Observes and shares with certificated staff student behavior.
8. Supervises students at lunchtime meal periods in the cafeteria or lunch eating areas, maintaining order and assuring compliance with school rules and safety regulations.
9. Excuses students from cafeteria or lunch area in accordance with procedures set by the particular school.
10. Escorts students from one area of the site to another as assigned by the site administrator or other certificated staff.
11. Supervises students in maintaining clean and uncluttered conditions in the cafeteria or lunch area.
12. Assists certificated staff in supervising, escorting, accounting for and aiding students, and in facilitating inter-staff communications in the event of a disaster or emergency during school hours.
13. Attends necessary and appropriate meetings and participates in staff development sessions as required by the Superintendent or site administrators.
14. Regular attendance at workshops and programs that support student welfare and create positive school climate.
15. Performs other duties assigned by the site administrator or Superintendent, in conformance with legal requirements and district policies.
16. Requires the ability to comprehend and follow the River Charter Schools safety plans, procedures and policies and all other standards and policies.
Knowledge and Skills: ABILITY TO:
1. Relate positively to students, staff and the public.
2. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
3. Stand, walk, travel about the school grounds in the course of supervising students.
4. See, identify and monitor students and their activity, both nearby and at a distance.
5. Learn and follow the practices, rules, and regulations of the District and the school to which assigned.
6. Maintain the confidentiality of school related information.
7. Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
8. Consistently model appropriate behavior related to a positive school climate.
9. Possess or obtain CPR Certification.
10. Basic First Aid.
Experience:
* Evidence of successful work experience within or outside the home.
* Experience working with children or in youth related activities.
Education:
* High School or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Conflict management training.
Physical Abilities:
Requires ambulatory ability to go to different locations. Requires speaking and hearing to communicate in person or over the phone. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers. Requires lifting of light to moderate objects on an occasional basis and sufficient ambulatory ability to stand for sustained periods of time. Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity in order to operate a personal computer keyboard, typewriter, and other office equipment. Requires the ability to handle hot material and work in an environment dominated by wide temperature extremes.
