At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a Mechanical Engineer/Modeling and Fabrication Technician, a typical day will include the following duties:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work within cross-functional teams to support the design and development of systems that contain both off-the-shelf and custom-developed equipment.
  • Design, prototype, test, and troubleshoot new and existing designs.
  • Contribute to the development of specifications for new system designs.
  • Develop and execute test protocols for both informal and formal design testing.
  • Design, build, and test manufacturing test fixtures to support production of new systems.
  • Prepare assembly and test procedures for new hardware designs.
  • Build prototypes and perform light assembly of production systems.
  • Interact with outside vendors to source parts.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's degree in CAD, 3D Modeling, or Precision Drafting
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated CAD experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the design of rack-based systems desired.
  • Demonstrated understanding of GD&T tolerancing practices preferred.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing technologies including machining, molding, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, integrate and validate designs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of wireless technology, digital/analog communications, or RF
  • Experience with Test Automation and Continuous Integration

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job frequently requires the individual use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls in a light-production shop facility with professional manufacturing equipment.
Travel
GCI's systems are distributed regionally throughout the Continental United States (CONUS), and require quarterly updates to software systems, and occasionally hardware, as well. The successful candidate is able to travel at least four times a year to CONUS sites for two (2) to four (4) days to perform the scheduled maintenance.
*A candidate must be a US Citizen and requires an active/current Secret clearance and be willing to upgrade to a TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance. GCI will work with the candidate to transfer and sponsor their clearance.
