THEA BOWMAN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

2026-2027 School Year

Position: Teacher K-6 (Elementary)

Reports to: Building Principal

Start Date: Upon Board Approval

Job Goal: To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitude and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.


Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

  • Bachelors of Arts Degree
  • Professional Teaching License



All staff are expected to maintain their certification for the positions/subjects taught. Renewal of licenses are the responsibility of each certified staff member and failure to hold the proper licenses may be cause for non-renewal of a contract for the next school year.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assure compliance with all State Department laws and all Board of Education policies and regulations of the Superintendent relating to transportation.
  2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the .
  3. Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  4. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  5. Assess and modify instruction for students not mastering state and local standards
  6. Determine accommodations and methods of teaching and grading a student’s progress
  7. Provide consultation to colleagues when needed
  8. Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  9. Established and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  10. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  11. Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  12. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  13. Plans and coordinates the work of Instructional Assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  14. Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
  15. Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays interest centers and exhibits of student’s work.
  16. Collaborate with teachers serving students with disabilities: co-planning, team teaching
  17. Share resources for the benefit of each child




Working Conditions and Physical Environment

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
