SEASONALITY:

Swim lessons are offered year-round, with varying dates of individual swim sessions offered.

Work may not be available during breaks in individual swim sessions for this role. Work may be available in another role upon inquiry.


SALARY DESCRIPTION:

  • $19.65 - $22.40 per hour during group swim instruction
  • $16.90 per hour for non-instruction time

JOB SUMMARY:

Swim Instructors deliver our Swim Lesson Program that will provide our members of all ages with swimming and water safety instruction. Swim Instructors will plan and deliver age-appropriate and skill-focused lessons based upon participant abilities. The right individual enjoys working with people, is patient, inspiring and motivating.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to teach their own classes to the standards set forth by In-Shape
  • Maintain a safe environment through correct implementation of safety policies and procedures
  • Engage appropriately with swim participants of all ages
  • Effectively communicate with participant parents
  • Complete program session trackers and distribute to participants/participant parents
  • Enforce and notify management regarding safety standards and identify potential hazards of the facility
  • Monitor and report equipment issues
  • Enforce all pool rules, regulations, and program standards
  • Advise Manager regarding any need for discipline or ejection of member(s) from pool facility
  • Complete all records and reports (Member Incident Reports) as required
  • Help keep pool deck and facility clean
  • May be required to lifeguard and teach private and/or group swim lessons
  • Assist in building our community of members through a consistent member experience
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities assigned

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or High School diploma or GED
  • Experience:
  • Swim Instructor I – No prior or less than 1 year previous experience teaching swim lessons
  • Swim Instructor II – One year + previous experience teaching swim lessons
  • Swim Instructor III – Two or more years previous experience teaching swim lessons
  • Current lifeguard certification or ability to pass lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire date
  • Current CPR or ability to pass CPR certification within 60 days of hire date
  • Must be able to work mornings, evenings, and weekends; based on swim class schedules
  • Previous experience helpful but not required
  • Flexible/positive attitude in meeting and exceeding our members’ expectations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, work well under pressure and time constraints and displays positive behavior in all member interactions
  • Able to follow written instruction and complete basic forms
  • Successfully passing a basic swim assessment will be required as part of the hiring process
  • Ability to swim 100 meters of freestyle, breaststroke, back and butterfly
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • High regard and propensity for safety
  • Attend required team meetings and trainings as needed
  • Must be Trustline registered; In-Shape will facilitate this upon acceptance of offer of employment or upon reaching the age of 18 if under the age of 18 the time of hire

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member will constantly be in and out of a body of water. Team members are frequently required to walk and stand up to 8 hours/day; sitting is seldom to occasional. Team members are occasionally required to use hands and fingers for handle or feel; occasional reach, push and pulling with arms and hands; occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and occasional reach and twist, including side-to-side movements, in and out of a body of water. The team member may be required to occasionally lift, carry or move up to 25 pounds and may seldom be required to lift, carry or move 26-50 pounds. Team members may be exposed to cleaning chemicals or airborne particles and will be required to wear designated PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as directed.
