Preconstruction Estimator - Life Science

When you join Design Group as an MEP Estimator, Construction, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world's leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Construction Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.
What You'll Do
You'll work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.
  • Create and submit well organized, high quality written estimates that account for project risks

  • Prepare construction and installation estimates from feasibility studies, conceptual designs, preliminary designs, or detailed designs

  • Review all project plans, specifications, take-offs, I&C, and documents to gain a full understanding of intended use of the estimate

  • Collaborate with the design team and offer cost effective alternates

  • Prepare cost estimates for small- and large-scale jobs

  • Manage project from estimating/bidding, detailing, product purchasing, delivery, scheduling, installation, and construction administration

  • Calculate the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overhead and profit, and presenting a final price

  • Develop accurate labor and material costs with accurate quantity take-offs

  • Maintain strong working relationships with the design team, sub-contractors, sub-consultants, OEMs, and suppliers

  • Develop and maintain relationships with trade contractors and end-users in targeted regions

  • Coordinate with Design Group construction teams as required to maintain current cost data

  • Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team

  • This role will require occasional travel for project visits or meetings.

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years construction cost estimating experience focused on Life Science/Pharmaceutical estimating from conceptual stage through buyout

  • Demonstrated knowledge of estimating practices and procedures utilizing estimating software

  • Prior experience utilizing on-screen takeoff or bluebeam and estimating databases

  • Strong understanding of CSI Estimating Format

  • Prior experience in gathering and utilizing historical cost information as well as a network of trusted subcontractors

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and meet tight deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand project schedules

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage multiple projects

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and gather subcontractor input for optimizing project performance

  • A willingness to travel for project requirements including installation and start-up activities, client and company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions

  • Experience working on large commercial/industrial projects (both greenfield and brownfield/renovations)

  • Read and understand construction, installation, and I&C documents: details and drawings

  • Self-motivated individual with good written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Procore & Project)

  • BS degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
