What is life insurance sales?

Life Insurance Sales involves helping individuals and families find and purchase life insurance policies that meet their financial and coverage needs. Professionals in this field educate clients about different types of life insurance, such as term life or whole life, and assist them in selecting the best options. They also handle paperwork, answer questions about policy details, and may provide ongoing customer service. Life Insurance Sales agents often work for insurance companies or as independent brokers, and typically earn commissions based on the policies they sell.

Is life insurance sales a good career?

A career in life insurance sales can be challenging and rewarding. You are responsible for customer acquisition, and your income is commission-based. The job affords immense room for growth, as the market is large and commissions are high. Additionally, life insurance sales agents get the opportunity to act as financial investment advisors to individuals who find it difficult to navigate life insurance policy documents on their own.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a life insurance sales agent?

To excel in Life Insurance Sales, you need a solid understanding of insurance products, strong sales acumen, and typically a state-issued insurance license. Familiarity with CRM software, digital quoting tools, and e-signature platforms is important for managing leads and processing applications efficiently. Exceptional interpersonal skills, active listening, and resilience help agents build trust and maintain long-term client relationships. These abilities are crucial for meeting sales targets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering tailored solutions to clients' financial needs.

What are some common challenges faced by life insurance sales professionals, and how can they be overcome?

One of the most common challenges in life insurance sales is building trust with potential clients, as discussing financial planning and mortality can be sensitive topics. Overcoming this requires strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and a consultative approach to understand each client's unique needs. Additionally, meeting sales targets in a competitive market can be demanding, so successful agents focus on continuous learning, networking, and leveraging technology to manage leads effectively. Collaborating with experienced team members and seeking mentorship can also provide valuable support and guidance.

Job description

Life Insurance Sales Agent — 100% Commission, Uncapped Income, Fully Remote

Job Type: Full-time, commission-only (1099)
Location: Remote (U.S.-based, work from anywhere)
Compensation: Commission only · No income cap

The Opportunity

We're looking for motivated, self-driven individuals to join our growing team of licensed life insurance agents. This is a true entrepreneurial role — you control your schedule, your income, and your ceiling. There are no quotas to chase and no commission caps to hit. The harder and smarter you work, the more you earn.

Whether you're an experienced producer looking for a better split or someone hungry to break into the industry, you'll get the training, lead support, and carrier access you need to build a book of business that pays you for years.

No license yet? No problem. If you're not currently licensed, we'll connect you with an exceptional pre-licensing program at a discounted rate, so you can get licensed and start earning quickly.

What You'll Do

  • Connect with individuals and families to understand their financial protection needs.
  • Present and sell term, whole, and universal life insurance products from top-rated carriers.
  • Manage your own pipeline, schedule, and client follow-up.
  • Stay current on products, underwriting guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Optional: Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of your own agents and earn overrides on their production.

Why Join Us

  • Taubman Financial Management — Taubman Financial Management is a leader in providing clients with cradle to grave financial planning as well as strong coaching and mentoring for people looking to change their lives while serving others. With over 30 years’ experience in the financial services field, we have the tools and the knowledge to help you reach goals you set for your family and yourselves.
  • Uncapped commission — first-year commissions plus renewals and residuals that compound over time.
  • Fully remote — sell nationwide from your home office; no commute, no territory restrictions.
  • Flexible schedule — part-time or full-time, your call.
  • Build a team — leadership and override opportunities for agents who want to scale beyond personal production. Note: building a team is not necessary if you want to remain a solo producer. Either path is absolutely fine with us!
  • Carrier access — contracted with multiple A-rated carriers so you can fit the right product to the right client.
  • Training & support — product training, sales systems, and mentorship for new and experienced agents alike.
  • License support — discounted pre-licensing program for candidates who need to get licensed before going live.

Income Potential

Agents who fully engage with the system consistently reach six-figure incomes after their first year in the business. Your results depend on your effort, activity, and follow-through — there's no cap on what you can earn, and renewals keep paying you long after the initial sale.

Earning examples are not guaranteed. Individual results vary based on effort, market, and persistence.

What We're Looking For

  • Self-motivated, coachable, and comfortable with commission-based income.
  • Strong communication skills and genuine care for client outcomes.
  • Active life insurance license or willingness to obtain one — we'll help you access a discounted, high-quality pre-licensing program to get started.
  • Reliable internet, a quiet workspace, and the discipline to work independently.
  • Sales experience is a plus but not required; character and drive matter more.

Compensation Details

  • Commission-only, independent contractor (1099).
  • First-year commissions, renewals, and residual income on persisting policies. Note: this varies by products sold.
  • Override and bonus structure for team leaders.
  • No base salary or draw — your effort directly determines your earnings.
