Position Summary: The Civil Engineer will support civil construction projects through site design, GPS and site layout, estimating, 3D modeling, project management, and material procurement. This position will work with field and project teams to help ensure projects are properly planned and completed efficiently.

Key Roles / Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with civil engineering and design work for construction and development projects.
  • Develop and review site designs, grading plans, layouts, and other project documents.
  • Assist with site layout and field measurements to ensure construction is completed according to project plans.
  • Help set up, operate, and maintain GPS equipment and systems used for surveying, site layout, and construction activities.
  • Assist with GPS data collection, field mapping, and transferring design information to field crews and equipment.
  • Create and work with 3D models for site design, grading, layout, and construction planning.
  • Prepare and assist with project estimates, including material, labor, equipment, and other project costs.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, coordination, and overall project management.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate with project teams to help keep work on schedule and within budget.
  • Review plans, specifications, and project requirements to identify potential issues or conflicts.
  • Assist with the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies needed for projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding material availability, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Work with field personnel to provide technical support and resolve site or construction issues.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and material calculations.
  • Maintain accurate project records, drawings, models, estimates, and other documentation.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal team members as needed.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, company standards, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with civil construction, site development, earthwork, or related projects preferred.
  • Experience with GPS equipment and construction layout preferred.
  • Experience with civil design and 3D modeling software preferred.
  • Experience with estimating and project management preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand civil plans, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in both an office and field environment.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions:

  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
  • The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions. 
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions. 
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed. 
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
