Job description

Product Design Engineers turn ideas into high-performing, manufacturable solutions. This role is at the center of innovation — transforming customer requirements into detailed designs, guiding projects from concept to launch, and ensuring every drawing, model, and BOM meets the highest standards.
If you love solving mechanical challenges, collaborating across departments, and seeing your designs come to life on the production floor, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a Product Design Engineer, you’ll combine technical expertise with project leadership to deliver new and improved products:
  • Designing new products and assemblies from concept through final production drawings
  • Creating complete 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
  • Developing accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings in ERP (Dynamics AX)
  • Troubleshoot tooling defects and provide timely production support.
  • Implement improvements to reduce downtime, changeover time, scrap, and tooling-related safety risks.
  • Performing engineering calculations and analyses to validate designs
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer-specific standards
  • Selecting components to meet functional and cost requirements
  • Managing new product launches, design changes, and improvement initiatives
  • Supporting Manufacturing, Sales, Customer Service, and Quality with technical expertise
  • Resolving design and production issues quickly and effectively
  • Identifying cost-reduction opportunities without compromising quality
  • Participating in Lean Manufacturing initiatives
  • Maintaining organized and compliant engineering documentation (including SR&ED requirements)
  • Communicating regularly with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams
  • Occasionally traveling to customers’ or supplier sites as needed

You’ll work closely with Marketing, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and Production to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification.

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a fast-paced fabrication environment and takes pride in precision.
Qualifications:
  • 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design/detailing
  • Experience in a customer fabrication shop environment
  • Expert-level 3D modeling skills (SolidWorks required; Inventor an asset)
  • Experience designing, improving, and maintaining production tooling.
  • Knowledge of tool-life improvement through material selection, coatings, and design modifications.
  • Experience with quick-change tooling, setup standardization, and spare-tooling control.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 2D CAD systems
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Dynamics AX preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education:
  • Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma, or equivalent experience

Compensation - $70K - $105K
