Preferred Student Classification Nature & Purpose of Position
The Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD) position is a part-time student leadership position in a university residence hall, focused on community engagement and student development. The ARHD is expected to uphold all basic RA duties and expectations, with additional responsibilities in areas of community engagement, crisis management, and student success. This position will report directly to an assigned Residence Hall Director.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
  • Oversee area programming, including pre-event paperwork, purchasing, publicity, and event execution
  • Uphold area due dates and expectations for door decs and bulletin boards
  • Support community development and well being
  • Maintain student contact and face to face availability through office hours and attendance of hall programs

STAFF SUPERVISION
  • Provide secondary supervision to a team of 6-16 student staff members
  • Utilize systems of accountability for staff process, procedure, and department expectations
  • Participate in Residence Life recruitment, selection, training, and development of student staff
  • May be asked to supervise a residential area under the direction of an Assistant Director as needed

ADMINISTRATION
  • Holds 10 weekly office hours, Monday - Friday from 8-5pm
  • Manage staff team duty calendar, including tracking duty switches
  • Oversee the area's abandoned property process, ensuring timely and accurate paperwork
  • Expected to complete professional development and training opportunities
  • Performs other duties listed in Resident Advisor and Residence Hall Director Manuals or as assigned by supervisor

CRISIS MANAGEMENT
  • Participate in an overnight and weekend 24-hour on call duty rotation covering a portion of university residence halls throughout the year, including holidays
  • Lead on-call crisis and emergency response to ensure residents' safety
  • Ensure accurate reporting and provides follow-ups with student concerns
  • Enforce policy and manage reporting in StarRez ensuring accurate documentation and timely sanction completion


Other Requirements for the Position
EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
  • Have held a position as a Resident Advisor
  • Must have served as a Resident Advisor for a minimum of 1 semesters, 2 semesters preferred
  • Minimum 2 semester commitment preferred
  • Proven management and leadership abilities
  • Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be willing to live on campus in a residence hall
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers' License at time of employment
  • Able to physically perform the job's essential duties, including walking upstairs, frequently crossing campus, daily face to face service, and use of a department cell phone and computer
  • This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA)
