What is a life design coach?

A Life Design coach is a professional who helps individuals intentionally create and navigate their personal and professional lives using principles of design thinking. They guide clients in identifying their values, setting meaningful goals, and crafting actionable plans to achieve a fulfilling life. Life Design coaches often use exercises and tools to encourage creativity, reflection, and resilience, empowering people to adapt and thrive amid life's changes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a life design coach?

To thrive as a Life Design Coach, you need expertise in coaching methodologies, personal development frameworks, and often a background in psychology or counseling, supported by relevant certifications like ICF or similar. Familiarity with coaching tools, assessment systems, and digital platforms for virtual sessions is commonly required. Excellent active listening, empathy, and motivational communication skills help build trust and empower clients to make lasting changes. These skills and qualifications are essential for guiding clients through self-discovery and helping them achieve their personal and professional goals.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in life design roles when helping clients navigate major life transitions?

Professionals in Life Design roles often encounter challenges such as helping clients overcome uncertainty and resistance to change during major life transitions like career shifts, retirement, or personal reinvention. It can be complex to guide individuals in clarifying their values, identifying meaningful goals, and developing actionable plans, especially when clients face self-doubt or external pressures. Building trust, fostering open communication, and offering tailored strategies are essential skills for Life Design professionals to effectively support their clients through these transitions.

If you are looking for a role that combines leadership, technical challenge, client engagement, and long-term career growth, this is an opportunity to make a real impact while working with a team that values collaboration, mentorship, and excellence.

In this role, you will lead high-visibility municipal and transportation projects, strengthen client relationships, guide talented teams, and help deliver solutions that improve how communities move and connect. This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys combining technical leadership, business development, mentorship, and project delivery in a collaborative environment.

What You'll Do

  • Build trusted client relationships and serve as a key partner to municipal agencies on important infrastructure initiatives
  • Lead project execution from strategy through delivery, guiding budgets, operations, and financial performance to support successful outcomes
  • Mentor and develop high-performing teams, helping create an environment where people can grow, contribute, and do their best work
  • Shape roadway and highway design solutions that enhance mobility, safety, and long-term community value
  • Develop roadway models and cross sections that help bring complex transportation improvements to life
  • Design site grading and drainage solutions that support constructability, performance, and resilient infrastructure delivery
  • Guide erosion and sediment control planning that supports responsible project execution and environmental stewardship
  • Lead stormwater management design efforts that help projects perform effectively and serve communities for the long term
  • Support traffic control planning, studies, and signalization efforts that improve safety, mobility, and the overall user experience
  • Contribute to clear, effective signing and pavement marking design that enhances roadway function and driver confidence
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate utility design and help keep complex projects moving forward successfully
  • Create plans, specifications, estimates, and schematic design documents that support strong project delivery and lasting client confidence

Why Join STV

At STV, our culture is built around collaboration, growth, and purpose. We believe great work happens when talented people are supported, challenged, and encouraged to keep learning. Here, mentorship matters, technical excellence is valued, and career paths are not one-size-fits-all. You will have the opportunity to work with respected industry professionals, contribute to impactful projects, and continue building a meaningful and rewarding career in an environment that values both performance and people.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • PE license and 20+ years of relevant experience leading roadway, highway, or municipal infrastructure projects
  • Experience with software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, InRoads/GeoPak, and Microsoft Office; AutoCAD experience is a plus
  • Strong experience supporting municipal infrastructure projects is highly preferred
  • Involvement in professional organizations and industry associations is encouraged
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in a consistent, safe, and professional manner
