Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:
Administers respiratory care to patients as ordered by the attending physician. Conducts diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, therapy.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Initiates, monitors and maintains mechanically ventilated patients
a. Assists with placement of artificial airways (High Risk/Low Volume)
b. Performs and documents patient assessment including but not limited to breath sounds, airway patency and cuff pressure at least once per shift (High Risk/High Volume)
c. Verifies and documents ventilator function and patient status q2h minimum (High Risk/High Volume)
d. Assists with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients (High Risk/Low Volume)
e. Assists at deliveries as requested for neonatal resuscitation and/or stabilization (High Risk/ Low Volume)
2. Administers and monitors respiratory care treatments
a. Administers therapy according to established departmental policy (High Risk/High Volume)
b. Evaluates patient within 2 hours of notification of respiratory therapy orders and initiates as stated (High Risk/Low Volume)
c. Instructs patient and family members in proper methods of respiratory therapy
d. At end of shift, assures assigned areas are stocked as required
e. Responds promptly to treatment needs in Emergency Department (High Risk/High Volume)
f. Responds immediately to Dr. Leo codes and correctly manages the airway and external compressions (High Risk/Low Volume)
g. Responds immediately to all emergent patient situations including but not limited to Rapid Response, Stroke Alert, Stemi Alert and Trauma Alert.
h. Promptly sets up oxygen new starts per department policy (High Risk/High Volume)
i. Follows established hospital and departmental infection control policies
3. Records pertinent information in patient’s medical record
a. Accurately documents all respiratory care interventions during assigned shift
b. Documents patient and family education
c. Maintains up-to-date departmental records
d. Enters charges per shift for services performed/provided
e. Provides oncoming shift with current and accurate patient report
4. Performs noninvasive and invasive diagnostic tests and monitoring
5. Performs cleaning, preventive maintenance and calibration of RC equipment as required
6. Functions as respiratory care protocol assessor
a. Assesses patient per physician-approved criteria (RCP) within 1 hour of receipt of order and documents same (High Risk/Low Volume)
b. Writes correct therapy orders based on accurate triage score in physician’s order sheet under “RCP” (High Risk/Low Volume)
c. Delivers initial therapies as ordered (High Risk/Low Volume)
d. Reassesses patient within established time frame, changing therapy as indicated and documents same (High Risk/Low Volume)
e. Conveys all RCP therapies – initial and changes – to appropriate staff members and documents same in departmental records (High Risk/Low Volume)
7. Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
8. Adheres and upholds all service behaviors as listed in the I CARE value commitment and other departmental initiatives.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
