Job description

Job Summary:  

The Library Aide will provide professional and courteous library customer service and support to library patrons, staff, and other visitors during business hours and as required.


Essential Duties:

  • Provide support during regular library hours and provide call-in and leave coverage to ensure adequate support and consistency in service hours.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to library patrons, staff, and guests.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and guests in a safe, clean, and organized environment.
  • Use the library’s automated circulation system, perform circulation functions including checking materials in and out, processing holds, registering borrows, informing patrons of the status of their accounts, and conveying and enforcing library policy.
  • Prepare materials (books, DVDs, magazines, laptops, etc.) for circulation and identity worn, damaged and outdated items for weeding and deletion from the catalog.
  • Assist patrons with technical needs and troubleshooting relative to library resources.
  • Answer phone, take messages, and direct callers utilizing professional and courteous phone etiquette.
  • Cataloging new arrivals and reshelf materials using the established library system.
  • Assist with afterschool in-person or virtual programming.
  • Assist with carrying the goals and objectives relating to Learning and Cultural Outcomes and/or other grants.
  • Assist with the maintenance and organization of the library and department spaces.
  • Ensure library materials are kept in reasonable condition by inspecting, cleaning, and repairing incoming circulated materials and equipment.
  • Report any incidents and/or issues with patrons, facilities, equipment, and/or collections to the Education/Library Manager or Education Director.
  • In cooperation with the other Education Department Coordinators/Managers, create fun and engaging learning opportunities for patrons within our service area.
  • Responsible for ensuring the security and care of the library building, equipment, collections, furnishing, etc.
  • Troubleshoot/Assist with research for inquiries and requests by patrons, ensuring you help to the greatest extent possible.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Education: HS Diploma or high school equivalency is preferred.
  • Experience/Basic Knowledge:
  • Fluency or semi-fluency in Keres is preferred.
  • Ability to work with community members of all ages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, or related software.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment and accurate keyboarding skills necessary to manage clerical and cataloging duties.
  • 1-year experience in a professional setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to adhere to a flexible work schedule that will include nights and occasional weekends.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Prefer a valid driver’s license.
  • Physical Requirements: Significant standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
