Library technology refers to the tools, systems, and digital resources used to manage, organize, and provide access to information in libraries. This includes integrated library systems (ILS), digital catalogs, electronic databases, self-checkout kiosks, and other technologies that support library operations and services. Library technology professionals work to implement, maintain, and improve these systems to enhance the user experience and streamline library workflows. As libraries continue to evolve, technology plays a critical role in supporting both traditional and digital library services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in library technology, and why are they important?

Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS), content management systems, and digital cataloging tools such as MARC or Dublin Core is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help professionals adapt to evolving technologies and support patrons.
