Job description
The Oregon City Public Library is accepting applications from current Employees only to fill a full-time Library Assistant III position. The deadline for application materials is 11:00 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The Library Assistant III provides patron technology assistance and support in maintaining the library's computers and other equipment used by patrons, troubleshoots technology and equipment problems as necessary, and contacts assistance from outside resources when a solution is not found. Additionally, this position provides a variety of paraprofessional library services and oversight including, but not limited to, support in the areas of technical services, circulation, reference services, children's services and/or technology. Candidates with public library technology support experience are preferred.
Examples Of Duties- Provide exceptional, patron-focused customer service at public service desks, with approximately 75% of time dedicated to direct patron assistance.
- Provide one-on-one technology assistance, including support with computers, printers, microfilm, and other library technology.
- Troubleshoot public meeting room technology and audiovisual equipment within established access and security parameters.
- Assist patrons with Community Room reservations, technology setup, and check-in.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned library services, statistics, projects, periodicals, and tax forms.
- Support collection services, including New Books displays and related material selection processes.
- Provide technology and administrative support for Library Board meetings, including meeting technology and minutes.
- Provide service coverage across library desks and departments as needed.
- Maintain and manage the Community Bulletin Board in accordance with library guidelines.

Knowledge And Skills
Requires an in-depth procedural knowledge of library methods, practices and terminology including use of automated library catalog, integrated library system, and intermediate reference sources. Must have a solid understanding of the Dewey Decimal System of classification and the current American Library Association rules and trends for cataloguing. Requires a working knowledge of the processes for acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, and circulating library materials. Requires knowledge of and skill at conducting bibliographic searches. Requires a basic knowledge of multi-media equipment used in the library. Requires a complete understanding of Library operations, goals and objectives. Requires a working knowledge of financial record keeping sufficient to summarize daily activity and reconcile customer accounts. Requires sufficient communication skills to convey specialized concepts to patrons and to resolve urgent patron needs. Requires sufficient arithmetic skills to arrange materials in numerical sequences and to calculate sums.
Requires sufficient writing skills to document instructions on use of library services. Requires sufficient background and experience in specialized paraprofessional area(s), such as library technology.
Abilities
Must be able to perform all of the duties of the position with only general supervision and support. Requires the ability to follow detailed procedures such as standard library cataloging and filing rules. Must be able to apply and explain library services, layout, rules, and policies. Requires the ability to work as contributing member of a team, work productively and cooperatively with other teams and external customers, and convey a positive image of the City and its services. Must be able to perform routine clerical and record keeping duties. Requires the ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as: personal computers, common office productivity software, special library databases, microfilm readers/printers, and other peripherals found in libraries. May be required to work evenings and weekends.
Supplemental InformationEducation and Experience
Associates Degree or equivalent is preferred. Three years of experience in a community/regional library setting is preferred. Additional experience or higher education enabling performance in all aspects of the job may be considered.
Licenses and Certificates May require a valid driver's license.

As a small organization, enrollment is required to aid in the City's ability to continue to offer progressive, affordable benefits to those who need them. Summary Of Medical Benefits •Kaiser Medical •MODA Medical Employees have an option between a PPO plan through Moda or a heath maintenance organization (HMO) plan through Kaiser. Each medical plan includes prescription drugs and vision care. Coverage is for the employee and their dependents with a pick-up by employees toward the premium dependent upon their bargaining unit or management agreement. Summary Of Dental Benefits •Kaiser Dental •Delta Dental Employees and their dependents plan. have two plans available for dental insurance. Both plans offer preventive, routine, and major dental care, and orthodontic benefits. Life Insurance : Full-time AFSCME employees are provided $25,000 life insurance with $2,000 for dependent coverage. Long Term Disability Insurance : Full-time employees have long term disability insurance that provides for 2/3 of an employee's salary, up to a maximum earnings salary of $6,000 per month after a 30-day waiting period. Retirement : The City is a member of the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). The City currently contributes both the employer and employee's portion with the amount dependent upon the employee's status with PERS. HRA-VEBA : This Health Reimbursement Account is funded by the employer with monthly payroll at $50.00. This account can be used for qualifying medical, dental, and vision expenses for employees and their dependents. The funds in this account are invested and stay with the employee for life. Flexible Spending Account : Employees are offered the option to contribute pre-tax dollars for out-of-pocket medical expenses or child care expenses. Employee Assistance Program : The City provides employees and their families with access to countless resources through Canopy. Holidays : The City recognizes 12 paid holidays during a calendar year. Please check the city calendar for holiday closure dates. Vacation : Paid vacation time accrues on a monthly basis based upon hours worked, length of service, and by employee group. AFSCME employees can accrue up to 240 hours of vacation, part-time union employees can accrue up to 120 hours of vacation. Part-time employees accrue vacation based on number of hours hired to work. Sick Leave : Sick leave accrues on a monthly basis at a rate of ten hours per month. Part-time employees accrue sick leave based on number of hours hired to work.
