Job Description:
Student Employee, Library Assistant
POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Library Assistant
STATUS: Part time
DEPARTMENT: Library
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
REPORTS TO: Department Chair
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour
(Position is FWS Eligible)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Shelving and re-shelving books
2. Maintaining the order of the stacks
3. Assisting with library displays
4. Pulling materials for holds
5. Performs campus errands, such as deliveries between departments
6. Light cleaning of shelves and computers
7. Assisting in processing materials for addition to the collection
8. Assisting the Circulation, Reference, and Technical Service departments as assigned
9. Assist in the Print Room
10. Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. GPA of 2.0 or above.
2. Enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours in the fall/spring semester.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
4. Ability to pay attention to detail and attain accuracy.
5. Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction, while also contributing effectively within a team-oriented environment.
6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience as a Library Page or other library experience.
2. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
3. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
WORK SCHEDULE
-Must be available to work at least two to three weekdays (hours dependent on student schedule).
-Total Hours Per Week: 10-15 hours
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
