Summary:

TheAssistantPublic Services Manageris responsible forassistingin the management of all Public Services staff and activities including circulation,materials shelving,passports, notarizations,andhandling patron complaints and concerns.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree plus two years ofsupervisory experiencepreferred.Arkansas driver's license required.Strong leadership qualities, sound judgement, self-motivation, and the commitment to providing excellentcustomerservice in a public library are essential.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills and abilities to address patron complaints, concerns,andbehavior.
  • Computer literacy and willingness to learnnew technologies.
  • Knowledge of professional library principles and practices.
  • Expertise inlibrary resources, services, classificationsystems, policies,and procedures.
  • Ability tosuperviseandprovide feedback to public services staff members.
  • Ability to assess situations and make decisions following library policies and procedures.
  • Mustlike working with people of all ages.
  • Maintains professional relationships with co-workers andsupervisorwhileutilizingexcellent communicationskills.
  • Must be able toworka flexible schedulethat includesevenings and Saturdays.
  • Position requires walking and standing forlong periods. Requires light lifting andcarrying of up to 40 pounds.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Public Services in the absence of the Public Services Manager.
  • Utilizes customer service skills and abilities to addresspatron complaints, concerns,andactions.
  • Ensures circulation staff providesoutstanding customerserviceto patrons.
  • Troubleshoots problems and issues for patrons and public servicesstaff.
  • Recommends new circulation processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Familiarizes self with library policies to reachexpertlevel.
  • Monitors patron behavior and enforces library code of conduct.
  • Ensures circulation desk is clean and orderly, and that holds are properly maintained.
    Maintains circulation supplies.
  • Responsible forassessingdamaged materials, repairs, and billing patrons.
  • Keeps informed of library activities such as programs, room bookings, and general news, and communicates them to public services employees.
  • Passport Agent and Notary certificationrequired(withinfirst90days).
  • Other duties as assigned.
