Summary
Under general supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, ensures library materials are available for patron use. This is accomplished by shelving books and other library materials and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.
The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.
Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties
Essential Job Functions:
  • Shelves books and other library materials.
  • Organizes book carts in preparation for shelving.
  • Transports books and materials to the correct location utilizing the Dewey decimal system.
  • Places books and materials on shelves in the correct order.
  • Examines books to ensure they are in operative condition.
  • Rearranges books and straightening materials as needed.

Other Important Duties:
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

Job Requirements
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Basic reading and mathematics skills needed to identify items and understand the Dewey decimal system.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and related equipment, hardware and software.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communications.
  • Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have had successful completion of the 10th grade.
  • May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background and MVR check.
