Job description

The USF/HCA Graduate Medical Education Librarian plays a key role in the institutional partnership between USF Health and HCA West Florida Division, contributing to the development of resident and fellow education and scholarly activity by working with faculty, program leadership, and clinical staff across the GME enterprise.
The position supports the scholarly, educational, and evidence based clinical practice needs of residents and fellows through expert research assistance and consultations, comprehensive literature searches, evidencesynthesis reviews, instruction and the effective use of health sciences information resources across HCA training sites. The role also includes identifying emerging training needs and developing innovative services that advance the scholarly mission of the HCA GME program.
As a USF employee, the USF/HCA GME Librarian reports to the Assistant Director of Research and Education at the USF Health Libraries and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the HCA Division Research Director.
The position includes periodic travel to ten HCA GME training sites (1-3 visits to each site in each quarter) throughout the greater Tampa Bay area (Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, and Pinellas).

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA)accredited program. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant, postgraduate professional experience in medical, academic, or health sciences library settings. A distinguished record of service in the profession including publications, professional association activity, research, or other major contributions to the field. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Librarian.

Proficiency with current health sciences information resources, including PubMed and related biomedical databases.
Ability to apply controlled vocabularies, indexing structures, and research methodologies in the health sciences.
Skill in advanced literature searching and reproducible search strategy development.
Research and Evidence Synthesis Support
Ability to conduct and support literature reviews, including systematic and other evidence-synthesis methodologies.
Experience supporting evidence-based practice and scholarly research workflows in multidisciplinary academic and clinical environments.

Competence with information and citation management tools used in health sciences research.
Instruction and Education
Experience teaching evidence-based information practices to residents, fellows, and faculty.

Special Working Conditions:

The USF/HCA GME Librarian delivers expert research and information services that support resident and fellow education, evidence-based practice, and scholarly work across HCA GME training sites.
Provide individualized and small-group research consultations for residents, fellows, and faculty.
Develop comprehensive, reproducible literature searches to support clinical questions and evidence synthesis (e.g., systematic, scoping, rapid, or narrative reviews), and provide guidance on current best practices in research protocols and processes.
Consult on database selection and navigation, advanced search techniques, and critical appraisal of information sources.
Support citation management and research workflow tools used in academic and clinical settings (e.g., Mendeley).
Maintain and update the HCA Resident LibGuide and other point-of-need online resources
Promotes HCA librarian services and resources.
Collaborate with health sciences library colleagues to develop and deliver research services and contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement.
Participate in relevant HCA GME events and activities, including resident scholarly activity programs and events, such as HCA Research Day, to support resident scholarship and engagement with the GME community.  
Professional development is an essential component of professional practice, ensuring that librarians continually strengthen the competencies, knowledge, and skills required to provide effective, current, and accountable support in educational and clinical environments. The USF/HCA GME Librarian is expected to engage in professional development and contribute to the advancement of health sciences librarianship through activities such as continuing education, scholarly or educational contributions, and professional service. 
The USF/HCA GME Librarian provides evidence-based practice instruction; teaches the effective use of health sciences information resources and research support tools; and identifies and assesses evolving training and support needs within the program.
In collaboration with USF and HCA GME faculty, the librarian designs and delivers program-integrated instruction and develops online materials that support resident and fellow education and research efforts. The position maintains periodic on-site engagement with affiliate hospitals through orientations, instructional sessions, and relationship-building with residents, fellows, faculty, and program coordinators.
