Job Summary
The Library Digitization Student Assistant is responsible for digitizing, editing, processing, and quality control of a variety of the University of Portland archival and local materials, such as papers, monographs, photographs, etc., based on established standards and guidelines. The work supports the Library's growing digital services program. The Library Digitization Student assistant works closely with the Digital Services Librarian to accomplish these duties. Maximum of 5 hours per week (during business hours, Monday-Friday), starting in Fall 2026 with a possibility to continue in the Spring.
Core Duties
  • Prepares materials for scanning using a flatbed and copy stand
  • Scans materials
  • Editing, processing, and performing quality control on scanned images
  • Records basic digital object metadata
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Attention to detail and processes
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Capacity to be flexible and move from project to project
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with standard scanning systems and workflows as they apply to the position
  • Experience scanning documents or some combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Professional, Adobe Creative Cloud tools, such as image editing and Microsoft productivity tools, such as Excel and Word
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Frequently: Able to sit for extended periods of time using computer and keyboard.
  • Frequently: Ability to lift 30lbs, push fully loaded book cart, move from floor to floor, bend and lift objects.
