JOB SUMMARY

The main role of the Teen & Young Adult Services LA3 is to schedule, plan, and implement library programs for patrons ages 13-21; including setup and clean-up with assistance from staff. This position works closely with the other LA3 positions to support a robust programming schedule and provide library collection assistance. 

The Teen & Young Adult Services LA3 will also work at a service desk where they will provide excellent customer service, help oversee day-to-day tasks, and communicate staff and patron concerns to the Director.

The Library Associate 3 role is the senior role in the Library Associate job family and may supervise Library Associate 2s. This position reports to the Library Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

  • Plans and presents teen and young adult programs, including technology, craft, and other classes. Programs may be conducted in-person and as pre-recorded videos or streaming virtual events. Programs must continuously accommodate the library vision and mission. 
  • Manages the access and use of the Cybrarium Makerspace, VR including placing of supplies orders and maintenance requests.
  • Acts as the primary staff liaison for the Cybrarium's Teen Advisory Group. 
  • Inputs planned programs into a shared tracking system and maintains accurate statistics of programs.
  • Works with Operations Coordinator to design marketing materials for print and digital distribution.
  • Provides customer service to patrons by greeting and assisting patrons
  • Informs library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate.
  • Assist with the circulation of library materials, including shelving and pulling of holds for patrons. 
  • Assists with library opening and closing procedures
  • Follow legal and policy requirements related to the patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • May coordinate volunteers/interns and assign duties, providing necessary training.
  • Presents children's Storytime and other children's or adult program coverage under the direction and/or in the absence of the Children and Adult Specialist.
  • Coordinates field trips: confirms details, inputs data into a shared tracker, and aids in planned activities during the field trip.
  • Works closely with the programming team to plan, implement and promote programming activities, including outreach events outside the Cybrarium.
  • Works with the other LA3 programmers to identify and bring in outside presenters.
  • May delegate tasks to LA2s for smooth service desk workflow and/or program success with the approval of the appropriate supervisor(s).
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • High School Diploma or GED required: Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Two years of experience in library support or paraprofessional position; or an equivalent combination of library experience, relevant curriculum or program development, instruction, and presentation experience. 
  • Knowledge of teen literature, educational resources, and developmentally appropriate programming is preferred. 
  • Know and understand the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves. 
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
