Job Summary

The CAD Operator will primarily be responsible for managing the engineering drawings library database in SharePoint and ensuring appropriate document control is enforced and will assist with Arc Flash Hazard Studies along with various other engineering functions related to substation and protection & control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with CAD systems to update substation, collection system, electrical controls systems and transmission electrical drawings for specified wind plants in close coordination with Operations personnel, ensuring that the drawings convey the correct and most up-to-date information.

  • Manage records and documentation concerning the modifications to specified drawings.

  • Ensure appropriate document control is enforced and manage the engineering drawings library in SharePoint.

  • Assist with arc flash model and study reviews and model updates.

  • Electrical substation design and knowledge of NEC & IEEE standards, methods and practices.

  • Work from red-line drawings, sketches or scanned images, OEM drawings, or other drawings and/or specifications.

  • Participate in regional and project staff meetings as needed.

  • Other duties as directed and needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree, or two year equivalent, in Computer Drafting, Computer-Aided Design, Engineering Technology, and/or Electrical Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years electrical layout experience for electrical power & control wiring (power distribution, schematic & ladder diagrams, transmission and substation design, etc).

  • Demonstrable technical ability on CAD platforms.

  • Experience with three-phase, DC electrical systems, substations, and transmission systems.

  • Modify existing drawings to minimize the need to create new drawings and create new drawings when necessary in a timely fashion that meet internal quality standards.

  • Interpret and prepare field sketches, and red-line drawings in 2D.

  • Must be able to self-check own work to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Able to work closely with Operations personnel to obtain information or ensure drawing accuracy and clarity.

  • Able to contribute in design reviews and improve job efficiencies.

  • Should possess intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, etc.) with Microsoft SharePoint experience a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.

  • Experience in wind plant operations and turbine experience

  • Experience with Arc Flash Hazard Analysis and EasyPower/ArcPro Software

  • Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) qualifications

  • Engineering technician experience.

  • Qualified candidates living in or near the greater Portland area
