Job Description
The Manager, Cognitive Engagement at ArcBest is responsible for managing our team of Cognitive Engineers and ML Engineers as they implement and maintain state of the art, scalable, high-performance cognitive solutions. The Manager, Cognitive Engagement leads design discussions with other team members, proposes alternative courses of action to help the customers meet their needs, and analyzes and interprets data to present results in a meaningful manner. They represent the CE Department in PI planning and provide timely and accurate reporting on the status of all CE systems as required. The Manager assists team leaders as needed in the system definition, system design, coding, testing, and implementation of cognitive solutions designed to meet the customers' needs. If necessary, they assist in the training of their customers on how to operate systems in their area of responsibility. In addition, this position must maintain communication with management and other team members on the status of cognitive projects.
Responsibilities
  • Assist employees with questions concerning one's responsibilities and share technical knowledge. Train customers in specific applications.
  • Consult with customers on implementing proposed solutions and plan courses of action to help the customer meet their needs.
  • Provide solutions for any system problems that may arise, which includes 24-hour on-call support for existing systems.
  • Determine whether a problem exists, and if so, formulate and implement a solution for the problem.
  • Prepare, organize, and conduct training classes for employees when needed.
  • Provide estimates for the different stages of cognitive projects, revising these estimates as additional information becomes available.
  • Provide for and manage personnel in the Cognitive Engagement area of responsibility, including personnel-related tasks such as planning, organizing, scheduling, delegating, coordinating, motivating, leading, training, directing, reviewing, and evaluate performance and work assignments.
  • As needed, write code, train models conduct third-party reviews for cognitive systems.
  • Follow up on solutions implemented and maintain close, regular communications with the key functional department personnel.
  • Improve the consistency, timeliness, quality, security, and delivery of cognitive systems.
  • Administer special projects as assigned.
  • Actively assist in the new hire recruiting process.
  • Assist employees with systems design, and system definition and determine the steps necessary to code, test, and implement cognitive systems to meet the customers' needs.
  • As needed, assist employees with estimates, designs, test procedures, and implementation of system enhancements when requested by the customers.
  • Analyze, estimate, advise, counsel, serve, conduct research, guide, and assist customers with specific problems or questions concerning cognitive systems.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Requirements
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences or related field, required
  • Master's Degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent experience, preferred
Experience:
  • 6 years software development experience, required Preferably in the tech environment.
  • Working experience in multiple, modern programming languages such as C#, JavaScript, and Python.
Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong working knowledge with MLOps and deployment pipelines; knowledge of ML frameworks, libraries, data structures, data modeling, and software architecture.

Other Details
Work Hours:
  • Work hours will generally fall between 7:30 am - 5:30 pm and may include irregular and on call hours. A flexible work schedule may be available after six months of employment, subject to approval by the supervising director.
Compensation:
  • This is a salary position paid biweekly.
