Job description

This is a temporary position for a period of 6 months.

Position Summary
The Graphic Artist Assistant will create and produce page layouts designed to educate the community about programs and other resources available at The Library. This position works with The Libraryโ€™s brand standards and guidelines to design and prepare layouts for promotional materials using the Adobe Creative Cloud of software. The software includes, but is not limited to, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The Graphic Artist will assist the supervisor and collaborate with department staff on projects which focus on outreach activities throughout Dauphin County communities.

Environmental Conditions
Primarily works indoors, seated at a desk, using a computer. ย  Travels among facilities. ย Provides own transportation and is reimbursed accordingly. ย ย 
Essential Functions

1.ย ย  ย Uses the suite of Adobe Creative Cloud software to update and produce flyers, bookmarks, brochures, posters, web graphics and similar marketing and publicity materials. Responsible for preparing design files for either a printing press or digital printer.
2.ย ย  ย Maintains project list in the Community Relations Portal. Organizes work schedule based on the deadlines provided in job carts.ย 
3.ย ย  ย Responsible for producing collection, standard and new display signage for all libraries. Also, primarily responsible for print projects submitted by Friends Groups.
4.ย ย  ย Other responsibilities would include production support including laminating, foamcore mounting, assistance with point-of-purchase displays and assisting the press operator with preparation of bi-annual mailings.
5.ย ย  ย Travels to various libraries and library programs to collect short video footage for social media and website projects. Aids in storage and organization of collected video footage.
6.ย ย  ย Attends staff meetings and continuing education workshops.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training: Certificate or Associates Degree in Graphic Design.

Experience: One-year experience graphic design. One-year experience using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator

Required: ย Ability to produce accurate, grammatically correct written communication. Excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to move 25 lbs. unassisted.ย 

Requires independent transportation for travel to libraries, programs, and outreach locations.
