Library Archives information

What are library archives?

Library archives are specialized collections within libraries that preserve and provide access to historical documents, records, manuscripts, photographs, and other materials of enduring value. Unlike regular library materials that are typically published and widely available, archival materials are often unique or rare and are preserved for their historical, cultural, or research significance. Archivists organize, catalog, and protect these resources to ensure they remain accessible to researchers, students, and the public while maintaining their long-term preservation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a library archivist?

To thrive as a Library Archivist, you need a solid background in information science, archival theory, and records management, usually supported by a master's degree in library science or a related field. Familiarity with archival cataloging systems, digital asset management tools, and preservation technologies is typically required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and strong communication are crucial soft skills for managing collections and assisting patrons. These competencies ensure the effective preservation, accessibility, and integrity of valuable information resources.

What are some of the typical challenges faced by professionals working in library archives, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in library archives often face challenges such as managing large volumes of materials, ensuring proper preservation of aging or fragile documents, and adapting to new digital archiving technologies. Balancing the need for accessibility with security and privacy concerns is another ongoing responsibility. Addressing these challenges typically involves staying current with best practices in archival management, utilizing digital cataloging tools, and participating in ongoing professional development to keep pace with technological advancements.

Job description

About the job

Since 1979, FANGORIA has lived in print and on-screen as one of the most influential horror brands in the industry, and has now been ushered into a digitally dominated world to thrive as iconic an genre media destination, honoring a 40+ year legacy through exciting, inclusive, and generation-spanning content, across multimedia platforms such as print, digital, studio (film and television), podcasts, merchandise and more. From design, to content, to advertising, FANGORIA is a curated, celebratory experience of the horror genre.

Now at FANGORIA we are looking for an Audience Development & Content Strategy Lead to join our passionate team. This is a hands-on, in-the-tools role for someone who reads data and analytics fluently on a daily basis. The ideal candidate has grown a publication’s audience: they know which formats work and multiply, when to kill an idea and when to test it, how a 47-year archive becomes a traffic engine, how email turns readers into members, and how to win discovery in an AI-driven search world. They collaborate on the plan, own the numbers, and love proving what works. A strong candidate has a genuine passion for horror, but you don’t need a horror resume: some of the best people for this job are growing very different sites right now, and we know it.

If you’ve got the vision, the drive, and an unrelenting obsession with what makes audiences grow, step into the shadows and join us in building the future of FANGORIA together.

Scope and objectives:
  • First: fangoria.com, in partnership with editorial. Make the website grow. Content strategy, SEO and AEO, Google Discover, and the evergreen and archive engine, measured weekly.
  • Second: email. Turn subscriber newsletter into a traffic and conversion engine, in partnership with marketing and editorial.
  • Over time: the subscriber funnel. Instrument the journey from unknown reader to email subscriber to paying member, and improve it stage by stage.
  • Social and community channels remain owned by our marketing team; you arm them with insights rather than run their channels. Paid media is a separate function.
What success looks like:

In year one: website sessions growing quarter over quarter, email-driven site traffic multiplied several times over, email capture on the site measurably improved, and a dashboard the whole company trusts. We’ll set the specific targets together in your first month.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead content strategy for fangoria.com and our email programs: the mix, formats, and cadence, deciding what we make more of, what we stop, and why, working hand-in-hand with the Editor-in-Chief and the Managing Editor, Digital.
  • Own audience development and its scorecard: site traffic, email list growth, and members driven by digital are your numbers. Build the dashboard yourself, set the targets, and report against them monthly.
  • Drive search and discovery in the AI era: SEO, AEO, Google Discover, structured data, and the evergreen formats that compound.
  • Work with the editorial team to turn FANGORIA’s 47-year archive into a growth engine: audit, refresh, merge, resurface, and republish the deepest horror library in the world.
  • Make email an engine: partner with marketing and editorial to align the subscriber lifecycle funnel from unknown reader to paying subscriber, and establish the metrics that monitor every stage of the journey.
  • Identify and scale new formats based on what the data proves, from interactive features to video companions, expanding into podcasts and events as the function matures.
  • Partner with the Editor-in-Chief, who owns FANGORIA’s voice, and the Managing Editor, Digital, who runs daily editorial operations: you set the plan, they make it FANGORIA.
  • Support our sales and marketing teams with performance data that makes sponsored and partner content measurably better.
