Library Archive Collection Manager Jobs (NOW HIRING)

The Ingalls Library and Museum Archives serve the museum community by identifying, acquiring, organizing, and providing access to information in accordance with the values of the institution and to accomplish strategic initiatives. In fulfillment of this mission, the Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian oversees all aspects of acquisition, control, preservation, and access to serials, auction catalogues, dealer catalogs, and electronic resources. The position is responsible for leading development, implementation, and evaluation of serials and electronic resources, policies, and practices. The position supervises serials and electronic resources activities and workflows and handles the increasingly complex management tasks that ensure access to the library’s e-resources. This position is a member of the library senior staff and is a co-manager of the Technical Services Management Team.  

Requirements and Key Competencies 

Master’s degree in library science (MLIS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program. Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field preferred.  A minimum of three years’ experience in an academic or research library with at least two years of serials or electronic resources experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of national trends and developments in serials and electronic resources management. Experience developing and managing relationships with vendors.  Experience with library systems and OCLC required. Understanding of electronic resource management systems, link resolvers, and proxy services such as EZProxy. Working knowledge of at least one foreign language required as well as a proficiency in using dictionaries for other foreign languages. Supervisory experience required. Organizational, decision-making and problem-solving skills including the ability to create policy; supervise staff, interns, and volunteers; prioritize and manage workflow, projects, and multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and solving problems in a dynamic environment. Project management experience desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.  

Responsibilities 

• Supervise and perform all administrative duties related to serials and electronic resources staff, work-study students, interns, and volunteers by prioritizing, organizing, and assigning work; providing training and reviewing work in progress; evaluating staff, and updating Director of Ingalls Library on status of projects and assignments.  
• Oversee selection of materials and overall serials collection development, including print and electronic materials. Assist with the preparation of related areas of annual budget. Work directly with the Director of Ingalls Library Archives and the Acquisitions and Collection Development Librarian to evaluate rare serials to be added to the collection.  
• Plan, coordinate, and direct the acquisition, processing, access, and use of serials and auction catalogues in all formats.   
• Collaborate with the Director of Ingalls Library and Museum Archives to manage, review and negotiate the licensing of electronic resources, including arranging trials, negotiating prices and license terms, and monitoring usage statistics. 
• Maintain subscriptions with vendors and auction houses, review annual subscription renewal lists, and serials gift and exchange acquisitions.  
• Coordinate with Archives staff to manage the Library’s CARTA (Collaborative Art Archive) membership and create catalog records for eBooks digitized by the Archives in WorldShare Collection Manager. 
• Coordinate with the Access Services Librarian to provide access to electronic resources and databases, by monitor links, IP addresses, etc. Oversee and maintain WorldShare Collection Manager. Troubleshoot access problems by coordinating with vendors, Digital Innovation & Technology Services department, and the Systems Librarian.
• Work with cataloging staff to ensure serials are appropriately cataloged; determine when single issues of a serial should be cataloged separately.  
• Manage workflows related to dealer catalogs identified by the Acquisitions Specialist and/or Head of Cataloging Services that arrive via staff transfer. Responsible for original and copy cataloging of items selected for inclusion in the general collection in conjunction with the Head of Cataloging. Manages the library’s collection of dealer catalog boxes.  
• In consultation with the Reference and Access Services Librarian and Director of Ingalls Library and Museum Archives, plan for future storage and facility needs for serials and auction catalogues. 
• Provide serials, auction catalogue, and electronic resources reference as needed to all library constituencies. Staff library reference desk providing in person and remote assistance to museum staff, researchers, college and graduate students and the general public.  
• Prepare schedules for staff, volunteers, interns, and practicum students; maintain serials manual; and assist with budget and annual report. 
• Identify, collect, analyze, and communicate statistics associated with serials and electronic resources. Assist with monthly reports.

Salary: $47,000
