What is a library administrative assistant?

Library Administrative Assistants are support professionals who help manage the daily operations of a library. Their duties typically include answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining records, handling correspondence, and assisting library staff with clerical tasks. They may also help patrons with basic questions and support librarians in organizing events or programs. These assistants play a crucial role in keeping the library running smoothly and efficiently.

A Library Administrative Assistant should have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in office administration, often supported by an associate’s degree or relevant experience.
