Job description

What's the role?

As a Construction Inspector you will be responsible for all phases of B2B and FTTH fiber construction in a manner consistent with Liberty policies, procedures, quality work standards, customer needs, and applicable local, state, and federal laws. You will also be responsible for leading all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the field personnel assigned & assist the Project Manager with duties as assigned. Projects include but are not limited to day-to-day maintenance and commercial new build.

How you can add value?

  • Monitor and report on all phases of commercial construction projects.
  • Supervise telecommunication construction projects from walk-out to completion.
  • Issue work to in-house and contractor crews. Review work on completion to ensure the project is completed to business customer and municipal specifications.
  • Perform pre-construction job walks with business customer representatives. Provide job cost estimates based on contract pricing and scope of work.
  • Perform pre-construction field inspection to ensure completion of make-ready and existing aerial facilities owned by various utilities including but not limited to Power, Middle Mile, Telephone, and CATV companies.
  • Responsible for working with and handling contractors, preparing detailed work prints, writing Job Cost estimates, and crafting a bill of materials (BOM) for aerial and underground projects.
  • Perform field inspections against invoices to ensure accuracy, ensure Liberty’s specifications are met, and material usage is accurate.
  • Performs daily quality control inspections of contractor production, quality, and accuracy requiring the opening of vaults, pedestals, lock boxes, and other enclosures including a detailed physical and visual inspection.
  • Validate QC and reconciliate commercial construction projects in progress and monitors contractor’s activities periodically.
  • Monitor and verify contractor compliance with safety procedures to include OSHA, SCDOT, and NESC standards, as documented in the Liberty Construction Standards.
  • Promptly and appropriately provide necessary reports such as budgetary and weekly production reports. Responsible for Audit New Build, Joint Trench, and/or assigned area(s). Maintain clear and precise data.
  • Responsible for marking Liberty’s Network Plant by Government Agency procedure request.
  • Responsible for Commercial Site Surveys, coordination with building owners and or third parties building-entry, measures, cable routing, and eventual Equipment Colocation on customer premises.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

2 - 5 years of working fiber network related experience. CCNA certification

CompTIA Network+ Certification

Additional Computer, IT or Comparable Certifications

Other qualifications:

  • Bilingual Preferable (Spanish and English).
  • Knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, components, magnetism, AC and DC theory and circuits, resonate circuits and filters, electron tube and transistor fundamentals, amplifiers, and oscillators.
  • Knowledge of aerial and underground construction practices is required.
  • Should have extensive knowledge of equipment characteristics, capabilities and limitations, design alternatives, and other factors, including field situations and practices, past and current, which influence system design.
  • Knowledge of drafting techniques and principles.
  • Should have the ability to use common drafting tools and instruments.
  • Ability to maintain a neat orderly record.
  • Should know underground, aerial, and fiber construction.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strive to work well with people and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and confined spaces.
