The Counsel will work in the Ryan Legal Department as a member of the Litigation Team. The Counsel will report to the company's VP and Head of Global Litigation, who reports to the Chief Legal Officer. The Counsel will work on a broad, global range of litigation matters with leadership, business stakeholders, and other department functions. He or she will provide litigation management and dispute resolution legal services including: advice and counsel on the full range of litigation and bankruptcy issues, optimal litigation results, training/skills development as appropriate, and projects.

Duties:

    • Day-to-day litigation and dispute resolution management, including complex commercial litigation, trade secrets disputes, and related discovery management. Independently attend mediations and depositions.
    • Manage litigation efficiently, appropriately leveraging and managing outside counsel.
    • Provide practical and business-focused legal advice and counsel, taking into account multiple stakeholder perspectives where necessary. Assess risks and offer client-focused practical solutions and options.
    • Insurance coverage compliance management: Oversee adherence to policy coverage and notification to carriers, counsel selection and expense reimbursement.
    • Provide support for Board of Manager materials related to litigation.
    • Monitor changes in state and federal North and South American and international regulations and laws to ensure compliance with those applicable and relevant to the Company's business, and audit for compliance with laws.
    • Draft and review litigation-related Firm Policies and Procedures.
    • Assist with select risk management matters.
    • Partner effectively with team members to ensure adequate reporting on litigation outcomes and learnings, internal/external trends, legal updates and projects updates, and to develop and/or deliver effective legal training.
    • Provide day-to-day legal counsel and advice to business stakeholders and management on a variety of business-related matters, including, disputes with clients and vendors, terminations of contracts and or advice on best practices with regard to ending contractual relationships and or defending the Company's interest in the event of a client or vendor relationship termination, responding to subpoenas, and other business-related legal requests, review and advise on confidentiality agreements, and e-Discovery matters.
    • Obtain appropriate approvals for projects, third-party engagements, and expenses, review outside legal counsel invoices for appropriate billings, amounts, scope, and timely submissions for payment with the appropriate descriptions. Track and monitor outside legal expenses.
    • Expense Management: Manage and evaluate outside counsel in execution of strategies in claims and litigation and provide creative approaches to dispute resolution and litigation while managing costs. In-sourcing matters wherever feasible.

    Education/Experience:

    Juris Doctor Degree (JD) and at least eight years of relevant legal work experience. Broad and deep litigation practice knowledge; mediation, arbitration and trial experience, including trade secrets. International matter experience a plus.

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet navigation and research, including legal research skills using WestLaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg or similar legal research platforms. Experience with AI platforms SmartSheets a plus.

    Certificates and Licenses:

    JD Degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in the US, preferably in Texas.

    Work Environment:

    • In-office requirement of at least 3 days each week.
    • Standard indoor working environment.
    • Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm; interface with external vendors, attorneys, and clients also necessary.
    • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
    • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 lbs.
    • Travel requirement: less than 20%.
