Job Description
Unpacks, examines, assembles, and packs cargo, extractions, and personnel parachutes. Follows standard procedures in performing basic packing tasks such as visually examining/inspecting the fabric and all equipment of the parachutes for serviceability, stowing canopy, and suspension lines, installing reefing lines and cutters, and folding and packing various complex parachute assemblies. Reads and understands diagrams and instructions from technical manuals and manufacturer's instructions. Performs technical, routine, and in-storage rigger-type inspection on cargo, extraction, and personnel parachutes as well as other airdrop equipment before, during, and/or after each use. Performs general support maintenance on all parachutes, textile components, and other airdrop equipment. Examines, inspects, adjusts, and aligns mechanical components to rigid specifications, and assemble and link numerous subsystems, requiring a knowledge of how those assemblies inter-join, and the ability to perform numerous precision procedures. Examines/inspects, tests, and installs extraction and release systems. Uses and maintains machines and tools for fabrication, modification and repair of parachutes, and other airdrop equipment. Possesses a basic understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to apply that knowledge in assembling, testing, and connecting those components properly. Performs rigging, handling, and transporting of Hazardous materials and explosives. Performs Static line jumps (Ft. Benning certified) for Test and Training if qualified. Performs High altitude low opening and high altitude high opening jumps with certification from the Military Freefall School if qualified (HALO Qualified). Performs duties as Drop Zone Safety Officer if qualified. Performs as a member of flight crew to assist in dispatching test items in flight. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This is a supplement to Parachute Rigger JD. Performs Static line jumps (Ft. Benning certified) for Test and Training if qualified. Performs High altitude low opening and high altitude high opening jumps with certification from the Military Freefall School if qualified (HALO Qualified). Performs duties as Drop Zone Safety Officer if qualified. Performs as a member of flight crew to assist in dispatching test items in flight. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Qualifications
Pay Rate: $41.30
Education/Licenses/Certifications/Experience Requirements:
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must be an experienced military rigger (minimum four (4) years of experience) Army certified parachute rigger by the Quartermaster Center, Ft. Lee, VA.
* Must be Military static line jump qualified.
* Must qualify at Test Parachutist III level by having two (2) of the certifications below:
o Graduate of a USASOC (United States Army Special Operations Command) approved Military Freefall Course.
o Civilian Instructional Rating (AFFI/Tandem)
o Static Line Jumpmaster (DZSO) Qualified
* Must be able to maintain jump status in accordance with FM-220
Job Skills Requirements:
* Must have an understanding of and perform loading and unloading of aircraft.
* Must be able to perform horizontal and vertical center of balance of gravity tests for rigging and loading aircraft.
* Must be able to obtain a current High Altitude Physiological (HAP) card, and maintain current.
Physical Requirements:
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and Class 2 flight physical and periodic retests.
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
* Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Must be capable of lifting 100lbs unassisted.
* Must be capable of frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping.
* Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for Air Delivery.
